The ISMA (International Super Modified Association)
winged supermodifieds are the ultimate short track racing
machine. These cars feature custom-built tubular frames, that
places special consideration on lightness, strength and placement of
suspension parts. Supermodifieds are powered by 470 cubic inch,
700 plus horsepower engines, which are placed off the left side of the
frame for better handling capabilities. The cars also feature
aerodynamic wings, connected to air shocks. The wings
automatically rotate from a horizontal position on the straights to a
more vertical, downward plane in the turns, giving the rear tires more
down-force and thus creating higher corner speeds. All of this
technology makes the supermodified the fastest car to appear on the
half-mile Jennerstown asphalt. |
