Jennerstown Speedway has created a structured internship program
permitting college students or recent college graduates the opportunity
to can gain valuable experience in the sports industry.
The purpose of the Jennerstown Speedway internship program is to provide
an extensive hands-on career development program that assists young
adults with the selection of appropriate careers. We provide work
positions that are meaningful and compatible with their education and
aspirations. We also offer guidance in the job search process, from
resume writing and utilizing our network of peers in the industry to
assist qualified individuals in seeking out available positions at the
completion of their internships.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Intern positions are non-salaried. Interns utilizing the position for a
course grade must make all arrangements with the participating
college/school prior to beginning the work experience.
All interns should be highly motivated, interested in the sports
industry, possess excellent inter-personal skills and a good attitude,
have a willingness to learn and be prepared to work long hours,
including Saturdays. Internships are available all year long.
TIME COMMITMENT
Interns must be available to work full time, including evenings and
weekends. Monday through Friday the workday is generally 9:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. (possible evening hours may be required for trade shows, show
car appearances and special circumstances). On race days, the work day
begins at noon at ends after the event is completed. (often as late or
later than 11:00 p.m.).

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2006
FULL TIME POSITIONS
OPERATIONS INTERN (1)
Start Date: Must be available April 1 thru September
Duties: Assist with all aspects of facility operation. Assists with
office management during the week, and supervision of race day event
staff such as cashiers, ticket takers, security, parking attendants and
souvenir staff.
Race day duties: Rotate between 1) managing customer welcome/service
center, supervise program sales/contest redemptions, answer customer
questions, 2) accounting duties (prepare registers, automated ticketing
machines, make change for cashiers, count cash 3) general facility
management/troubleshooting.
Other duties: May also gain valuable experience in community relations,
promotions, concessions and special projects.
Qualifications: Successful applicants should have a strong interest in
gaining experience in the sports industry, be highly motivated, a self
starter, and hard working. KNOWLEDGE OF MOTORSPORTS A PLUS. Operations
internships are for students who wish to gain broad experience in the
sports/events management industry.
Reports to General Manager
MARKETING INTERN (1)
Start Date: Must be available April 1 thru September
Duties: Assists with all aspects of the speedway’s advertising,
marketing, sponsorship and sales promotions. Includes creating,
developing, and successfully implementing all aspects of an effective
campaign. Assist Director of Marketing in organizing, planning and
implementing all speedway related entertainment programs.
Qualifications: Students enrolled in marketing, or sports marketing
programs preferred. Successful applicant must project a positive self
image at all times. Candidate must be well organized, creative, be able
to pay attention to detail and possess excellent follow-through skills.
Must have strong analytical and reasoning abilities, be comfortable
performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with routine activities,
work within a team structure, have good interpersonal skills, and have
the ability to perceive problems, suggest and troubleshoot solutions
proactively. Reports to Director of Marketing.
PUBLIC RELATIONS /
PROMOTIONS INTERN (1)
Start Date: April 1 thru September
Duties: Assist staff with writing press releases, newsletters, weekly
program features and other publications. Design, write and place media
advertising. Schedule and coordinate show car/simulator and mascot
appearances throughout the season.
Qualifications: Must project a positive and professional image at all
times, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Enrollment in a journalism program and a knowledge of motorsports is
beneficial.. Success candidate must possess strong analytical and
reasoning abilities and be comfortable performing multifaceted projects
in conjunction with other routine activities.

PART TIME POSITIONS
FOOD / BEVERAGE INTERN (1)
Start Date: April 1 thru September; requires working two-days per week,
including Saturdays
Duties: Assist with all aspects of the food and beverage (concessions)
operation. Includes: ordering, inventory, stocking, sales reports,
monitoring sales percentages /per caps and vendor relations. Also will
assist in overseeing concession staff and setting up hospitality areas.
Qualifications: Successful applicants should have a genuine interest in
the business of venue concessions, be highly motivated and hard working.
Reports to Concession Manager
KIDS CLUB / MASCOT INTERN
Start date: April 1 thru September; requires working two-days per week,
including Saturdays.
Duties: Assist with the planning of interactive activities for the Kids
club and the Kids Fun Zone. Management of both the club and Kids Zone on
race nights. Responsible for on-site management of the Jennerstown
mascot, along with other cartoon characters used throughout the course
of the year.
Qualifications: Must like children, and be able to plan interactive
activities that will entertain groups of 25 or more. Will be responsible
for health and welfare of children while parents are watching the race
event .
