Richard Mitchell takes Late Model Victory at Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(June 26, 1999)-It was
feast or famine this weekend for NAPA Auto Parts Late
Model driver Richard Mitchell of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.
After crashing hard at Motordrome Speedway Friday night,
Mitchell and his Timber Wolf team spent all night
rebuilding his Chevrolet for racing at Jennerstown,
where he drove to victory Saturday night.
"It just shows the dedication and how hard our guys work
to make sure the car's back at 100 percent, and it was
tonight,' Mitchell said. 'This is the best the car's
ever handled here."
Division point-leader Mark Cottone 01 McKeesport came
home second, followed by Barry Awtey of Jenners, Neil
Brown of Acme and Shawn Beam of Somerset. Members of the
Somerset Chapter of Special Olympics cheered Dave Houpt
to a strong seventh-place finish after he announced
plans to to donate his winnings to the organization.
Giant Eagle Pro Truck driver Nick Rosa of Ligonier took
the lead from Josh Coughenour of Somerset by lap six and
never looked back during the 25-lap truck feature,
scoring his fourth victory of 1999. Coughenour held off
Todd Price of Alum Bank for second. Rounding out the top
five were George Englert of Greenville and Bryan Thomas
of Hooversville.
From his fifth-place start, Mark Flick of Apollo
survived an early-race spin to win the 25-lap Grand
American Modified feature. Ford City's Erik Skomo raced
point-leader Thomas Knight Jr. of Plum to the line,
finishing second by a nose. Ralph McBride of Valencia
came home fourth followed by Ken Skomo of Ford City.
Mike Smith of Akron, Ohio continued his impressive 1999
season with another victory in the PA Legacy Series.
Blairsville-native Rick Boyer crossed the start-finish
line second, ahead of Branden Manns of While Oak, Ed
Boyer of Indiana and Bill Miller of New Wilmington.
Street Stock point-leader Doug Shaulis of Somerset took
his third victory of the 1999 season in the 20-lap
feature. Rounding out the top-five were George T. Nicola
of Pittsburgh, Mike Davis of Somerset, Billy Mostoller
of Friedens, and Mel Wilt of Hollidaysburg.
Ray Stopa won his first feature event in Jennerstown's
amateur Charger division. Chasing him to the checkers
were Sam King of Mill Run, Carl McCurdy of Latrobe,
Jason Fritz of Jenner Cross Roads and Jesse King of Mill
Run.
Super Six racers take next weekend off, as Jennerstown
