JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY WELCOMES DRIVERS AND FANS AT OPEN
HOUSE
Jennerstown, PA-(April 24, 1999)-
Race fans could not have asked for a better day to
capture their first glances of NASCAR racing at
Jennerstown Speedway. Sunny skies welcomed hundreds of
fans and nearly 90 drivers to Jennerstown’s Practice and
Open House.
The NASCAR Winston Racing Series kicks off Super Six
Racing at Jennerstown next Saturday, May 1. Eighty-six
drivers brought race cars to Jennerstown to test their
equipment on the Laurel Highlands oval before
competition begins next week. Fans and drivers found out
why Jennerstown has the largest pit area in Western
Pennsylvania, nearly filling its capacity with such a
huge turn out.
"The numbers don’t lie," Speedway General Manager Bob
Duvall said. "With a turn out of a little less than 90
race cars and hundreds of fans just for Open House and
Practice, next weeks racing should be quite a show to
kick off the season."
Car counts were high on both ends of the NASCAR Winston
Racing Series spectrum. Jennerstown’s featured Late
Model division showed 24 cars practicing, while the
entry-level Street Stocks also showed 24 cars. Race fans
turning out to see their favorite local drivers received
an added bonus when four touring division drivers turned
laps of practice at Jennerstown Speedway.
Last year, Jennerstown’s new trophy-only Charger
division began with only two cars on practice day. The
second year for Jennerstown’s amateur division showed
eight different drivers preparing for next week’s
opener. The PA Legacy division was represented by 10
different race cars, also making laps to prepare for
Super Six Racing at Jennerstown.
Next weeks home opener is expected to be quite a show,
giving race fans a first look at the local NASCAR
competition. The PRO Truck Tour will also race on May 1.
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and racing is set to begin
at 6 p.m.
