Jeff Dunmyer Wins Late Model Feature

Jennerstown, PA- (May 8, 1999)- After crashing in the heats and then watching the NAPA Auto Parts Late Model Feature from his trailer last week, Jeff Dunmyer of Friedens turned his luck around by winning the feature at Jennerstown Speedway Saturday May 8th.
Kennametal driver Snooky Williams of Latrobe started first, dominating the first half of the race when rain brought out caution on Lap 21. By lap 26, Dunmyer passed Williams to take the lead where he remained until the checkers. After battling all night, last week's winner, Richard Mitchell of Bruceton Mills, W.Va. tangled in turn 4 with Barry Awtey, bringing out another caution. Mitchell raced back to salvage a 10th place finish. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Hemphill, defending champion Mark Cottone, Williams and Neil Brown.
"Any race fan who missed out on the action should be sorry," Speedway General Manager Bob Duvall said. "We saw some great racing tonight."
Nick Rosa of Ligonier led the Giant Eagle Pro Stock Trucks to the green flag, and he showed domination, leading from start to finish. Throughout the entire feature, Bryan Thomas of Hooversville and George Englert of Greenville battled for second. Thomas held off Englert for second and finished half-a-car length back of Rosa. Altoona native Aaron Will and last week's winner Todd Price finished fourth and fifth.
Driving with a splint to protect his injured ankle, Phil Larcinese of Jefferson Boro. took the Grand American Modifieds feature in style, starting first and leading the entire feature to capture his first victory of the season. A crash in last week's heat put Larcinese in the ambulance headed for the hospital. To show his gratitude, he announced plans to donate a check to the Jennerstown Ambulance for their help last week. Following Laricinese to the checkered flag were Mark Flick, last week's winner Thomas Knight Jr., Marion Reno and Erik Skomo.
From his second place start, Mel Wilt of Hollidaysburg crossed the start-finish line first, taking his first win of 1999. Fans saw bumper-to-bumper racing throughout the field all night long. Mike Bakalon of North Versailles moved up four spots, coming home second. Rounding out the top five were last week's feature winner Doug Shaulis, Billy Mostoller of Friedens and Mike Davis.
PA Legacy drivers not only had to battle each other but also the weather. With rain threatening, last year's track champion Mike Simith found victory lane followed by Jayme Bolkavek, George Stockman, last week's winner Rick Boyer and Mike Hemphill. Charger division action was halted due to rain and is scheduled to make up its feature next week.
Racing continues next weekend when Tribune Review will present five divisions of racing. The Main Event Series makes its debut at Jennerstown bringing back past competitors like Tim Ice and Glen Gault. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and tickets are $11.50 for adults and kids 12 and under are FREE. Call the Speedway office for ticket and details.
