BROWN, ROSA, KNIGHT, NICOLA, ST. CLAIR AND SMITH WINNERS
AT JENNERSTOWN
Jennerstown, Pa.-(July 24, 1999)-NAPA Auto
parts Late Model driver Neil Brown scored his first
feature win of 1999 at Jennerstown Speedway, as JLG
Industries presented six divisions of racing.
The
Acme native grabbed the lead form Mark Poole by lap
five and remained out front for the final 45 laps.
Rookie driver Ryan Hemphill of Apollo nearly spoiled
Brown's victory with a late charge. Hemphill fell
short by inches, finishing a close second. Third
place went to Richard Mitchell of Bruceton Mills,
W.Va. Point-leader Mark Cottone of McKeesport came
home fourth, followed by Mark Smith of Meyersdale.
"The Late Model races are always exciting," Speedway
General Manager Bob Duvall said. "They put on a
great show for all of the race fans, including
nearly 1000 people from JLG Industries."
Giant Eagle Pro Truck driver Nick Rosa of Ligonier
made up five spots to claim his fifth win of 1999.
Chasing Rosa to the checkers were division
point-leader Bryan Thomas of Hooversville, George
Englert of Greenville, Josh Coughenour of Somerset
and Aaron Will of Altoona.
It
was the fifth victory of 1999 at Jennerstown for
Grand American Modified racer Tom Knight Jr. of
Plum. Marion Reno of White Oak, Ralph McBride of
Valencia, Mark Flick of Apollo and Scott Skomo of
Kittaning rounded out the top five.
Street Stock driver "Jammin' George" Nicola of
Pittsburgh battled his way through a field of 16
race cars to score his third win of 1999. Billy
Mostoller of Friedens finished a close second,
followed by Mike Bakalon of North Versailles,
point-leader Doug Shaulis of Somerset and Larry
Williams of Boswell.
Charger driver Carl McCurdy of Latrobe showed a
strong run early on, but by lap seven dirt track
racer Ron St. Clair made a power move to take the
lead. St. Clair powered by McCurdy, taking the
outside route to steal the victory with only three
laps to go. McCurdy settled for second, and Jason
Fritz of Jenner Cross Roads came home third.
Akron, Ohio's Mike Smith continued his winning ways
in the PA Legacy division. He claimed his seventh
win of 1999 over Mike Hemphill of Allison Park,
Brandon Manns of White Oak, Rick Boyer of
Blairsville and Jayme Bolkovac of Greensburg.
Gilmour Mfg. will present a full night of racing
next Saturday night, July 31st. Gates will open at
4:30 p.m., heats are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and
features will begin at 8 p.m. Adult tickets are also
being taken for the ISMA Super Modified race on Aug.
14th. Two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck champion Ron
Hornaday will also be on hand that evening to race
