TRACY GORDON SCORES FIRST WIN OF 1999
IN JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY NASCAR TOURING DOUBLE-HEADER
JENNERSTOWN, Penn., (June 19th, 1999)- The Busch North Series, NASCAR
Touring capped of an exciting evening of racing in a rare dual
appearance of NASCAR's Northeast Touring series.
Tracy Gordon of Strong, Maine proved he had the car to beat as the Maine
native set fast time during time trials, posting an average speed of
95.111 mph on the 1/3 mile Pennsylvania speedway. An 8-car redraw
however had Gordon starting from the number 2 position with Mayetta, New
Jersey's Martin Truex sitting on the pole. But this would not deter
Gordon who quickly assumed the lead on lap four.
By lap 65 it would then be veteran Dave Dion setting the pace and New
Hampshire Mike Olsen knocking on the door. Suddenly Dion got loose in
turn 4, Olsen checked up to let Dion straighten out and the cars of Tom
Carey and Bryan Wall were collected up in the melee with the 77 of Wall
going for a wild spin into turn 1.
Current points leader Brad Leighton who started 10th was a factor during
the middle and later stages of the event. Truex made another charge to
the front coming from 4th to the lead on the restart on lap 116.
With only 25 laps to go in the 150 lap event it was anyone race wit the
top 5 positions being contested by Truex, Gordon, Leighton, Aube and
Kelly Moore. With just a handful of laps to go Truex was using lapped
cars as picks to keep Gordon at Bay. But Tracy Gordon would not be
denied his night at Jennerstown, taking the checkers in front of a very
excited and packed house. Truex, Leighton, Aube and Moore rounded out
the top 5. |
