Mitchell
Continues Winning Ways At Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(Aug. 7, 1999)-For
the second consecutive weekend NAPA Auto Parts Late
Model driver Richard Mitchell followed his Friday night
victory at Motordrome with a win at Jennerstown
Speedway.
From his 11th-place start, the Bruceton Mills, W.Va.
native was the class of the field. Mitchell moved to
the top five by lap 12. It was only a matter of time
before Mitchell would over-power Bobby Henry of
Connellsville for the lead. Mitchell's Timber Wolf
Chevy claimed the top spot at the half-way mark, lap
25, where he remained unchallenged to score his
fifth win of 1999 at Jennerstown.
"Mitchell is having an amazing season," Speedway
General Manager Bob Duvall said. "He currently leads
the Northeast standings in the NASCAR Winston Racing
Series, and he definitely has the half-mile here at
Jennerstown down to a science."
Mark Smith of Meyersdale made a late charge to take
second from Henry. Henry settled for third, followed
by Barry Awtey of Jenners and Neil Brown of Acme.
George Englert of Greenville found himself in
Victory Lane for the first time this season in the
Giant Eagle Pro Truck division. Englert's Ford
proved too much for the second-place Dodge of
points-leader Bryan Thomas. Following Englert and
Thomas to the checkers were Josh Coughenour of
Friedens, Jim Hamilton of Jeannette and Nick Rosa of
Ligonier.
Grand American Modified racing action ended with an
extended green-white-checkered after a late caution.
The extra laps were not enough for the second-place
finisher Marion Reno of White Oak to catch race
winner Phil Larcinese III. The Jefferson Hills
driver led early but fell back through the field by
mid-race. Larcinese reclaimed the lead on lap 18,
holding off Reno for the win. Rounding out the top
five were Mark Flick of Apollo, points-leader Tom
Knight of Plum and Erik Skomo of Ford City.
A
multi-car crash slowed the start of the Street Stock
feature at Jennerstown but proved to be worth the
wait. After leading the majority of the 20-lap
feature, Mike Bakalon of N. Versailles had to settle
for second after Billy Mostoller of Friedens
challenged him on the last lap, leaving a finish too
close to call. Officials named Mostoller winner, as
he took home his career-first win. Third place went
to Doug Shaulis of Somerset. Dick Smith of Jeannette
and Tracy Colarusso of West Mifflin finished fourth
and fifth, respectively.
Mike Smith of Akron continued his winning streak in
the PA Legacy Series, capturing his ninth win in 10
starts at the Laurel Highlands oval. Rick Boyer of
Blairsville settled for second, followed by Mike
Hemphill of Allison Park, Brandon Manns of White Oak
and Jayme Bolkovac of Greensburg.
Charger racing concluded the evening's events with
Jason Fritz of Jenner Crossroads in Victory Lane,
taking his fourth win of the 1999 season. Dirt track
racer Lonnie McKenzie came home second, followed by
Craig Stoner of Latrobe, Dave Holder of Irwin and
Carl McCurdy of Latrobe.
