Continues Winning Ways At Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(Aug. 21, 1999)-A
late race caution couldn't stop Richard Mitchell
from sweeping NAPA Late Model competition at
Jennerstown Saturday night. The Bruceton Mills,
W.Va. driver had to relinquish his
half-straightaway lead when caution was thrown on
lap 44. Mitchell regained his lead on the restart
and kept the competition in his tracks, winning his
sixth Late Model feature of 1999. Mark Smith of
Meyersdale moved from his 12th-place start to finish
second and Ryan Hemphill of Apollo came home third.
Neil Brown of Acme led the first 30 laps and looked
to have the car to beat, but the late race charges
by Mitchell, Smith and Hemphill moved Brown back to
the fourth-place finish. Bobby Henry of
Connellsville rounded out the top five.
Nick Rosa of Ligonier led the Giant Eagle Pro Truck
50-lap feature from green flag to checkers, winning
his sixth feature of 1999. The Broadway Motorsports/Kennametal
driver dominated the field. The second place battle
was won by points-leader Bryan Thomas, leaving
George Englert of Greenville with a third-place
finish. Aaron Will of Altoona and Josh Coughenour of
Friedens rounded out the top five.
Grand American Modified drivers pulled double duty
Saturday at Jennerstown, making up a 50-lap feature
presented by Die Tech Mfg., plus racing an
additional 25-lap event. Mark Flick of Apollo
collected the $800 prize money, holding off division
points-leader Thomas Knight Jr. of Plum. Knight
nearly spoiled his victory, but Flick proved too
strong. Knight settled for second, followed by
Marion Reno of White Oak, Erik Skomo of Ford City
and Ralph McBride of Valencia rounded out the top
five.
Flick continued his winning streak, taking the
second G.A. Modified feature victory of the night.
Knight settled for his second-straight second place
finish, followed by Reno, Phil Larcinese of
Jefferson Hills, and Jason Busch of Swissville.
"Jammin'"
George Nicola took the lead on lap 12 and never
looked back during the Street Stock 20-lap feature
at Jennerstown. The Pittsburgh-native won by a
fender to take his fourth feature win of 1999. Doug
Shaulis of Somerset fell short of the win by inches,
coming home second. Rounding out the top five were
John Stanko of Hooversville, Mel Wilt of
Hollidaysburg and Roger Onstead of Friedens.
Mike Smith of Akron, OH continued his winning ways
in the PA Legacy Series, capturing another victory.
Smith has won all but one of his starts at
Jennerstown in 1999. Second place went to Jayme
Bolkovac of Greensburg. Rounding out the top five
were Ed Boyer of Indiana, Rick Boyer of Blairsville
and Brandon Manns of White Oak.
Jennerstown's amateur Charger division ended with
Carl McCurdy of Latrobe winning his second feature
of 1999. Mike Griffith of Berlin, Lonnie McKenzie,
Adam Reseigh and Ron St. Clair of Boswell rounded
out the top five.
