ISMA Feature At Jennerstown, Smith Wins In Late Models
Jennerstown, Pa.-(Aug. 14, 1999)-Rain
showers slowed green-flag racing action a
Jennerstown Speedway Saturday night. Mother Nature
finally cooperated, allowing a 50-lap NAPA Auto
Parts Late Model event, featuring Ron Hornaday Jr.
and his son Ronnie Hornaday III in competition. The
ISMA Supermodifieds capped off the evening with the
NAPA Auto Parts 100.
From his seventh-place start, Mark Smith of
Meyersdale scored his second NAPA Late Model
victory. Smith took the lead on lap 20 from Dave
Houpt of Friedens. Houpt's second-place finish was
spoiled by Richard Mitchell of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.
Mitchell mastered the outside groove working his way
around Houpt, securing second. Houpt settled for
third, followed by Shawn Beam of Somerset and Mark
Cottone of McKeesport. Hornaday Jr. and his son
finished just outside the top-10. Hornaday Jr.
finished a respectable 12th, and his son came home
one better in 11th.
Following the Late Model feature, the ISMA
Supermodifieds took to the track for their 100-lap
feature. Mike Ordway of Freemont, NH, scored his
first ISMA victory of the 1999 season. Ordway's
toughest competition proved to be Randy Ritskes of
Athens, Ontario Canada. Ritskes looked to have the
victory in sight, leading the majority of the race,
but by lap 77 Ordway's winged supermodified dove
inside of Ritskes, taking the position. Ritskes came
home second, followed by series point-leader Russ
Wood of Pelham, NH, Joe Gosek of Oswego, NY and 1996
ISMA feature winner at Jennerstown, Pat Abold of
Pennellville, NY.
Due
to the early evening showers Die-Tech's presentation
of the G.A. Modified 50-lap event has been
