NASCAR RACING LEGENDS RETURN TO JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY

Jennerstown, PA- (May 10, 1999)- No it's neither deja vu nor a dream. Tim Ice, Glenn Gault and other Jennerstown Speedway racing legends will once again race on the half-mile oval when the Main Event Series opens its 1999 season May 15th.
1994 marked the last year race fans saw these legends battle in unrestricted-Super Late Models. But this year, history will repeat itself. Past Jennerstown regulars like Ice, Gault, Richard Duecker and special-event racer Fred Campbell will make their way back to Jennerstown for a 100 lap feature.
Names like Ice and Gault were once synonymous with racing excitement at Jennrstown Speedway. In the late 80s and early 90s, race fans from across the region flocked to Jennerstown to cheer on these NASCAR Winston Racing Series' legends in their unrestricted-Super Late Models.
Gault spent eight years, 1987-1994, racing NASCAR Late Models at Jennerstown. He captured the NASCAR Northeast Regional Championship in 1988 and won the 1994 division-ending "Grand Olds 200." Gault says he is very excited about returning to his home track to kick off the Main Event Series.
"I love everything about Jennerstown," Gault says. "I love the fans. I love the track. It's a great place to race."
The Main Event Series began as a 100-lap race and now has expanded to a 14-race schedule in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Race fans will see these outlaw-bodied Super Late Models race 100 laps at speeds over 100 miles per hour on the Laurel Highlands oval.
Local NASCAR Winston Racing Series competitors like NASCAR Northeast Regional Champions Steve Peles and Charlie Cragan, and Barry Awtey all cut their teeth racing agianst drivers like Ice, Gault and Duecker.
"They were all good, clean guys to race with," NAPA Auto Parts Late Model Driver Barry Awtey says. "I wish I had a car to race with them. Just like back in the old days, it should be quite a show."
Ice returns to Jennerstown as the Main Event Series' defending champion and will likely be a favorite, along with Gault and Duecker, to win with their past success racing at the Speedway. Main Event drivers expected to race are: Ice, Gault, Campbell, Duecker, John Vallo, Scott Hantz, Tim Felver, Rich Rohrer, Scott Baker, Marcus Malcuit, Jim Cruse, Mike Holland, Ted Johnson, Chuck Silva, Mike Miller, Mike Luberda Jr., Dino Long, Gary Whipkey, Rob Swindell, Joel McKnight, Phil Rozum, John Cline, Dan Villars, Ryan Tedesco, Don Mahaffey Jr., Mack Gribble Jr. and Devin Herron.
As if the return of Jennerstown racing legends was not enough racing action for one evening, Tribune Review will also present a five division program of racing. Race fans, don't miss this legendary night of racing at Jennrestown Speedway. Tickets are only $11.50 for adults and bring the kids for free. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., and Time Trials start at 6:00 p.m. Call the speedway office for details at (814)-629-6677.
