Joe Gibbs Enters Car in BGNN 150 at Jennerstown Speedway
Jennerstown, Pa.-(June
7, 1999)-Western Pennsylvania's biggest NASCAR event in
over 30 years will also include some of NASCAR's biggest
names. NASCAR Winson Cup team owner Joe Gibbs has
entered a Pontiac in the Burnham BGNN 150 at Jennerstown
Speedway, and he has named his son as driver.
The Gibbs-owned Pontiac will be driven by Gibbs'
son, 29-year-old J.D. J.D. Gibbs is already an integral
part of the Joe Gibbs Racing Team, holding the position
as President of Joe Gibbs Racing of Charlotte, NC. He
plans to make a dozen Busch starts in 1999, including a
stop at Jennerstown Speedway for the NASCAR Double
Header Saturday June 19th.
Joe Gibbs currently fields two top Winston Cup teams
driven by Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart. Gibbs also has
entries in the NHRA Drag Racing circuit, including the
Top Fuel Car of Cory McClenathan and Funny Car of Cruz
Pedregon.
"Success" could arguably be Gibbs' middle name. He
currently holds three Superbowl wins as former head
coach of the Washington Redskins, one Daytona 500
victory with former driver Dale Jarrett and is a
favorite to win the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup championship
with drivers Labonte and Stewart.
Whether success is hereditary or not, Gibbs' son
will likely be a favorite to win the BGNN 150 at
Jennerstown with his father-car owner backed Pontiac.
MBNA Bank will sponsor Gibbs' No. 8 Busch North effort.
"Joe Gibbs fields some of the top cars in NASCAR,
and we are excited to have his son here to race,"
Speedway General Manager Bob Duvall said. "Ricky Craven
won here in 1991, and we would love to add J.D. Gibbs'
name to our list of Busch North winnners."
Pennsylvania becomes the center of NASCAR racing
during the weekend of June 19th. The NASCAR Busch South
Series takes the weekend off, while Winston Cup teams
head just a short drive north of Jennerstown to Pocono
Raceway on June 20th. Busch Series' driver Dave Blaney
also makes his return to Jennerstown Speedway along with
Ms. Motorsports 1999. Race fans don't miss this chance
to see some of the best stock car racing around.
