Busch Series Driver Dave Blaney To Make Personal
Appearance At Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(June 15, 1999)-Dave Blaney, one of
NASCAR's newest rising stars, will return to Jennerstown
Speedway to make a personal appearance during the NASCAR
Double Header Saturday, June 19th.
Blaney drives the Amoco Pontiac for Bill Davis
Racing in the NASCAR Busch Series and currently sits 9th
in points. In 1985 Blaney won the Laurel Highlands 101
with the All-Star Circuit of Champions at Jennerstown
Speedway. Following that year, the racing surface was
paved, making way for some of the best asphalt racing in
Western Pennsylvania.
The Hartford, Oh. native's win at Jennerstown
continued his father's winning tradition at the Laurel
Highland's oval. Open any record book at Jennerstown,
and Lou Blaney's name is all over it. He dominated the
sprint-car division at the speedway, winning the track
championships in 1969, '70 and '73.
"We are very excited to bring Dave Blaney back to
Western Pennsylvania," Track Promoter Stan Lasky Jr.
said. "The Blaney name is a big part of Jennerstown
history, and this will give fans a chance to meet one of
NASCAR's rising stars from our area."
Blaney said he was very excited to return to
Jennerstown Speedway, and he wishes he was coming to the
speedway to race.
Under the Amoco sponsorship, Blaney plans to go
Winston Cup racing full time in 2000. Gearing up for his
Winston Cup career, Blaney made his second Winston Cup
start last weekend at Michigan.
After turning a lap over 185 mph, Blaney qualified
21st for the Kmart Michigan 400. He raced to a
33rd-place finish, but more importantly, Blaney gained
some valuable seat time, imperative to his future
success in the division.
As a former sprint-car standout, Blaney became the
youngest and only rookie to win the USAC Silver Crown
championship in 1984, something former USAC drivers A.J.
Foyt and Mario Andretti failed to do. Among Blaney's
numerous racing accomplishments include the 1995 World
of Outlaws championship and runner-up Rookie-of-the-Year
honors in the NASCAR Busch Series in 1998.
Blaney will be signing autographs at Jennerstown
from 5-7 p.m. during the NASCAR Double Header. This full
day of racing will feature both the NASCAR Busch Grand
National North cars and NASCAR Featherlite Modifieds.
