Record Number of Cars Pre-Enter For NASCAR Double Header
at Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(June 15, 1999)-The NASCAR Double
Header scheduled for Saturday, June 19th at Jennerstown
Speedway is already going to be the largest NASCAR event
Western Pennsylvanians have seen in over 30 years. Race
fans have shown their enthusiasm, purchasing thousands
of tickets in advance. But, probably the most enthusiasm
has been shown by the drivers. A record number of race
cars have pre-entered for this event.
The Featherlite Modified Series, NASCAR's only
open-wheeled touring division, is set to race the
CarQuest 150 first at 7:00 p.m. One week before the
race, speedway officials had already received 43
Modified entries. When the Modifieds visited Jennerstown
last year, 34 race cars pre-entered for the touring
event. Mike Stefanik went on to win the event, and
finished the season first in Modified points. Tommy
Baldwin of New York currently sits on top of the
Modified points with 862.
"We knew bringing both touring divisions to
Jennerstown would be a huge event," Speedway General
Manager Bob Duvall said. "But, we are very excited
about the number of quality teams planning to enter the
events. This will be a full day of NASCAR racing no fan
should miss."
Not only have a record number of Featherlite
Modified entries poured into the speedway, but
Jennerstown has also received a phenomenal pre-entry for
the Busch Grand National North division. Speedway
officials have already received 40 entries from the
touring drivers. Pre-entry for the Burnham Boilers BGNN
150 includes a Joe-Gibbs Pontiac to be driven by his son
and President of Joe Gibbs Racing, J.D. Gibbs. In 1998
Stefanik picked up his second touring division victory
at Jennerstown, winning the the BGNN race. Currently
Brad Leighton of New Hampshire leads the division in
points. The Burnham 150 will directly follow the
CarQuest 150 and is scheduled to begin 8:45 p.m.
Though the Double Header at Jennerstown features two
touring divisions from the Northeast, local NAPA Auto
Parts Late Models driver Richard Mitchell of Bruceton
Mills, W.Va., plans to make his BGNN debut.
Future Winston Cup and current BGN driver Dave
Blaney will also be at Jennerstown to make a personal
appearance and to sign autographs along with Ms.
Motorsports 1999. The NASCAR Double Header is an all day
racing event with gates opening at 11:00 a.m. Practice
and qualifying are scheduled throughout the afternoon.
The CarQuest NASCAR Featherlite Modified 150 will begin
at 7:00 p.m., and the Burnham BGNN 150 will follow.
Tickets are now available at the advanced-discounted
price of $25. Tickets will be available Saturday for
$30, and children 12 and under are $5. Call the speedway
office for tickets at (814)629-6677.
