Point Battles Close as Super Six Racing Continues At
Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(July 23, 1999)-Only
six more weeks of competition remain for local
racers at Jennerstown Speedway. The point race is a
tight one, and local competitors are preparing for a
full night of Super Six Racing presented by Gilmour
Mfg. Saturday, July 31st.
"The season is winding down and competitors are
racing hard for each and every point," Speedway
General Manager Bob Duvall said. "Coming into August
the racers know they have to pull out all the stops.
This should be a great weekend of close racing here
at Jennerstown."
Mark Cottone of McKeesport currently leads the NAPA
Auto Parts Late Model division with 402 points.
Richard Mitchell of Bruceton Mills, W.Va. is
charging hard with three wins and a deficit of only
four points.
After last weekend's racing Nick Rosa pulled ahead
of Hooversville's Bryan Thomas to take the Giant
Eagle Pro Truck point lead. Rosa and Thomas have
swapped the lead all season long. Though both
racers are tied in points, Rosa maintains the lead,
outnumbering Thomas in feature wins five to one.
Winning more than half of the races he has started,
Thomas Knight Jr. of Plum has held the Grand
American Modified point lead for the majority of the
season. Mark Flick of Apollo is holding steady in
second, only 12 points behind Knight.
Street Stock racer Doug Shaulis has placed in the
top five in every race he has entered this season,
and it is no surprise he holds the point lead. The
Somerset native has a 4-point lead over second place
George T. Nicola of Pittsburgh.
Calling PA Legacy driver Mike Smith's 1999
performance outstanding is an understatement. The
Akron, Ohio native has already found Victory Lane
eight times and has a commanding point lead over
second-place racer Rick Boyer of Blairsville. Smith
holds a 38-point lead over Boyer.
Five divisions of the NASCAR Winston Racing Series
are scheduled plus the PA Legacy Cars. Gates will
open at 4:30 p.m., heats will begin at 6:30 p.m.,
and features will start at 8 p.m. Adult tickets are
only $7.50, and all children 12 and under are FREE.
Advanced ticket orders are also being taken for the
ISMA Super Modified Race and a 50-lap Late Model
event, featuring two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck
champion Ron Hornaday in competition. Call the
Speedway Office for details at (814)629-6677
