Four Winston Cup Drivers To Race At Jennerstown
Jennerstown, Pa.-(July
12, 1999)-How far do local NASCAR Winston Cup fans have
to travel to see their favorite drivers race? Pocono,
Bristol or Richmond may come to mind, but on Saturday
July 17th fans need not travel any further than
Jennerstown Speedway.
Along with a full night of Super Six Racing,
Jennerstown will host a Race of Champions, featuring
four Winston Cup drivers in a race among themselves.
Drivers scheduled to appear are Mike Skinner, teammate
to Dale Earnhardt and driver of the No. 31 Lowe's
Chevrolet Monte Carlo; Michael Waltrip, driver of the
No. 7 Philips Chevrolet Monte Carlo; Harry Gant, NASCAR
legend and former driver of the No. 33 Skoal Chevrolet
and Hut Stricklin.
"Western Pennsylvania has some of the most loyal
NASCAR fans in the country," Speedway General Manager
Bob Duvall said. "We are very excited at the opportunity
to bring four Winston Cup stars to Jennerstown, giving
area fans a chance to meet some of the best drivers in
the country and watch them race."
The drivers will compete in locally-owned Late
Models for a 25-lap feature on the half-mile oval. To
add to the excitement, the Winston Cup Stars will not
have a chance to test their cars until race day.
Race fans will have the opportunity to meet their
favorite stars one-on-one in a pre-race autograph
session scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. Each driver will also
be interviewed track-side, giving fans another chance to
learn about the racers' careers.
Gates will open at 4 p.m., and regular six-division
heats begin at 6:30 p.m. Super six features are
scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Winston Cup stars will
compete in the Race of Champions at 8:15 p.m. Super six
features will resume following its conclusion. Ticket
prices are $15 in advance or $20 race day. All children
12 and under enter FREE every Saturday in July. For
