JENNERSTOWN CELEBRATES CHAMPIONS
AND NEW MANAGEMENT
Jennerstown, Pa.-(December 5, 1999)-Jennerstown
Speedway presented its 32nd annual awards banquet
Saturday, December 3, at the Four Points Sheraton,
celebrating its 1999 racing champions and the upcoming
season.
Stan Lasky, Jennerstown promoter, announced plans to
lease the half-mile facility to Team Three Motorsports,
headed by former Jennerstown racer Steve Peles and his
partners Dennis Neri and Jim Coll. The lease agreement
leases the speedway to the group for the year 2000,
leaving the option to buy open.
"Under Team Three Motorsports Jennerstown has a
great future," Lasky said. "My family has run the track
for over 30 years and I am confident the new management
will keep Jennerstown running for another 30."
Team Three Motorsports has named Tom Ift general
manager and has plans to run a full schedule under the
NASCAR Weekly Racing Series in 2000. ASA will also visit
Jennerstown in August.
Before Lasky announced plans for next year, the top
ten were awarded trophies. The 1999 champions took
center stage. Championship awards were presented to
Richard Mitchell of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., in NAPA late
models; Bryan Thomas in Giant Eagle pro trucks; Thomas
Knight Jr. in grand American Modifieds; Doug Shaulis in
street stocks; and Mike Smith in legacy cars.
Rookie of the Year honors went to one driver in each
division, including: Ryan Hemphill in NAPA late models;
Aaron Will in Giant Eagle pro trucks; Wade Champeno in
grand American modifieds; John Stanko in street stocks;
and Art McElhinney in legacy cars.
Mechanics Bill Awtey, Thomas Knight, and Keith
Shirey received Mechanic of the Year honors. Most
Improved Driver awards went to Shawn Beam in NAPA late
models, Todd Price in Giant Eagle pro trucks, Marion
Reno in grand american modifieds, Billy Mostoller in
street stocks and George Stockman in legacy cars.
Along with capturing the NAPA late model
championship, Mitchell was also selected as most popular
driver in his division. Others receiving the honor were
Nick Rosa in Giant Eagle pro trucks, Ken Skomo in grand
american modifieds, Doug Shaulis in street stocks, and
Ricky Anderson in legacy cars.,
Jason Fritz was presented an award for winning the
most features in Jennerstown's amateur charger division.
Mike Griffith took home the division's best
sportsmanship award, plus Jason Lasky was awarded an
award for his "hard luck." Cory Isenberg of The
Tribune-Democrat also took home an award for outstanding
motorsports coverage. Jennerstown officials surprised
Lasky with an award for outstanding service.
NASCAR's Northeast Director Ron Bennett delivered a
speech to the 400 people in attendance, citing the
future of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. The banquet
concluded with a toast to the late Piney Lasky, leaving
Jennerstown's racers, staff, and fans the evening to
remember the season, while looking to the future under
Team Three Motorsports.
