Jennerstown To Host ISMA Supermodifieds, Ron Hornaday
and Son
Jennerstown, Pa.-(Aug. 5, 1999)-The
International Supermodified Association will make
its only visit to Pennsylvania on Saturday, August
14th at Jennerstown Speedway for the NAPA Auto Parts
100. Two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck champion Ron
Hornaday Jr. and his son Ron Hornaday III will make
special appearances, both racing in NAPA Late Model
competition.
The
ISMA Supermodified is an open-wheeled, winged race
car, weighing in at only 1850 pounds. It carries the
speed of an Indy car with the quickness of a midget.
For race fans, it is not uncommon to see a pack of
winged supers three and four abreast, darting in and
out of traffic and changing lanes in the middle of
the turns.
"The ISMA Supermodifieds are very unique race cars,"
Speedway General Manager Bob Duvall said. "They
carry a tremendous amount of speed around
Jennerstown and average around 140 miles per hour.
Race fans will definitely get their money's worth
and more for this event."
Jennerstown marks the 10th stop in the ISMA
Supermodified 18-race schedule. The supers race in
nine states, including New York, Michigan, New
Jersey, Ohio, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Pat
Abold of Pennellville, N.Y., scored the last victory
in an ISMA Supermodified at Jennerstown.
As
of July 27th, Russ Wood of Pennellville, N.J.,
currently leads the ISMA point standings. Joey Payne
of Hawthorne, N.J., holds second place followed by
Randy Ritskes of Athens, Ontario Canada; Mike Orday
of Freemont, N.H.; and Joe Gosek of Oswego, N.Y.
NAPA Auto Parts Late Model competition will be
highlighted by Hornaday Jr., driver of the NASCAR
Craftsman NAPA Brakes Truck, and his son Hornaday
III. Both will race locally-owned late models and
will compete with over 20 local racers. An autograph
session is scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. The Bud Girls
will also make a special appearance at the track.
Gates will open at 11 a.m., and ISMA time trials are
scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Order advanced tickets for
