Shawn Beam Returns To
Victory Lane
Jennerstown, PA (July 25, 1998)
- Shawn Beam made all of the right moves in getting his
race car into victory lane during the Giant Eagle Pro
Stock/Truck feature race at Jennerstown Speedway
Saturday night. After his primary race truck received
heavy damage during last weeks racing, Beam brought out
a very capable race car that he and his team had built
from the ground up, and once again "The Bullet" sliced
his way through the rest of the field for the win,
earning double points in the special event. Nick Rosa
held the lead for most of the event, but had to settle
for second place. Aaron Will ran well and finished in
third, with last week's winner George Englert coming
home in fourth and Scott Coughenour finishing in fifth.
In The Money Store Street Stocks it was Robert Smith
capturing his first ever Street Stock win since moving
up from the Charger cars. A late caution involving then
leader Mark Bloom blowing an engine at the start/finish
line and second place runner Wade Champeno was pinned
into the wall in the subsequent spin. Smith took over
the lead and held off a strong charge from Mike Bakalon,
who finished in second. Dave Morrow came home in
fourth, with Chris Deyarmin and Bill Mostoller rounding
out the top five.
In the Chevrolet Late Model feature race it was Jeff
Dunmyer who had a lock on the rest of the field, until a
late race caution bunched up the pack. This gave second
place finisher Rich Mitchell the chance to go for the
win, but he could not get underneath of the leader, and
had to settle for a very close runner up spot. Third
place went to last week's winner Mark Cottone, who had
Robert Arsenberger right beside him to finish in fourth,
while Chris Coughenour returned from his bad crash two
weeks ago with a top five finish.
In the NAPA Grand American Modified race it was yet
another win for Mark Flick, but once again it was not an
easy one as he had to fight his way through the rest of
the pack to gain the top spot. The lead changed more
than once in the final half of the race, with Matt Smith
finally taking the second spot at the finish line. Phil
Larcinese, Jim Nicola, an Richard Stiffler came home in
third through fifth, in bumper to bumper style.
The Irwin RV Legacy Cars once again put on a great
show, as these drivers continue to push their cars to
the limit. Mike Smith took a commanding lead throughout
the middle of the race, but once again a late caution
bunched the field, giving eventual second place finisher
Rick Boyer the chance for the win, but he too could not
get under the leader in the final turns. Following
Boyer to the finish line were Mark Poole in second, Mark
Westerick in third, and Robbie Young in fifth.
The Days Inn Chargers put on their usual crowd
pleasing show as Carl McCurdy paced the entire field of
five cars. Sam King held the early race lead, but had
to be happy with the second place finish. Mike Griffith
came home in third, with newcomer's Joe Ruskey and Max
Schlessinger finishing in fourth and fifth. |
