NASCAR Busch North Tour Revs up for Jennerstown Speedway
Event
Jennerstown (August 1) -- The hills of
the Laurel Highlands will once again come to life on
Saturday, August 22nd, when the NASCAR Busch North
Series rolls into Jennerstown Speedway for their
presentation of the Burnham Boilers 150. This annual
migration of drivers and teams from NASCAR's
northernmost touring division has always generated a
great deal of excitement among the race fans of Western
Pennsylvania.
The NASCAR Busch North Series division race was
moved from it's traditional spring date in May to the
late August date, after many battles with Mother Nature
and her fits of spring rain and wind. Finally NASCAR
and Jennerstown Speedway officials threw up their white
flags and retreated the race date to August in the hopes
of warmer, drier race weather.
Once the rough weather had subsided during last
seasons event, it was Tom Bolles from Ellington, Conn.
who held off a strong challenge from the hard charging
Andy Santerre to win in a paint swapping, tire rubbing
checkered flag finish. This years race should prove
even more exciting, as the top teams will be doing
battle down to the wire, for the chance of claiming the
1998 championship crown.
The Burnham Boilers 150 Jennerstown Speedway race
will be the 14th event of the Busch Tours 19 race
season. The reigning series champion is Mike Stefanik,
who started fifth in the 1997 race and finished 12th.
Every year the talk among the series drivers and
teams is on how great the Jennerstown Speedway asphalt
oval is to compete on, which makes the Speedway
officials and the area race fans very excited.
"We are very pleased with the fan response and media
attention generated by the appearance of the NASCAR
Busch North Tour here at Jennerstown Speedway, and with
the fantastic corporate support from Burnahm Boilers
this race has become one of our marquee events each
season," said Speedway General Manager Robert Duvall.
"We feel that our loyal race fans deserve the finest
quality stock car racing available, and the NASCAR Busch
North Tour events deliver that every time here at
Jennerstown Speedway," he said.
The Busch North Tour racescars are quite similar to
the Busch Series cars. The only exceptions being that
Busch North Tour cars race on a specific McCreary
bias-ply tire, and the race car roof flaps which are
mandatory on Busch Series cars, are not required on
Busch North Tour cars. Also the Busch North Tour cars
are 200 pounds lighter than the Busch Series entries.
The NASCAR Busch North Tour will be making their
only Western Pennsylvania appearance on Saturday, August
22nd. These are some of the drivers that will be moving
on into the NASCAR Winston Cup Series soon, and then you
have the chance to say that you saw them first, right
here at the Jennerstown Speedway.
