Mignogna Claims Super Late Model Feature

JENNERSTOWN, PA (July 21)…Things started to heat up Saturday night as the battle of the best challenged to take the victory in the Super Late Model feature. Power house, the #75 of Barry Awtey pushed his was from starting 9th to take the lead on lap 24 from past feature winner this season, #94 of Mark Smith who on lap 8 was able to take the lead from the front row starter, the #5H of Matt Howsare after a caution from a spin by the #00 of Larry Behanna on lap 7.

Yet, it was not the last time that the front was going to see someone who started back in the field, nor was it the end of the cautions. With Smith in the lead, Awtey was slowly closing the gap for the lead while the 07 of Jason Mignogna was trailing only a short distance behind the 75.  On lap 17, the #00 spun for the second time going into Turn 2 causing the field to go to caution. On the restart, Smith was able to hold of the 75 and the 07, but it wasn’t for to much longer.

Five laps later, Behanna for the 3rd time during the feature spun throwing out the caution. Mark Smith wasn’t able to hold on to the lead for long as Awtey flew past him 2 laps after the caution on lap 24 with the 07 yet again following right behind him, also passing Smith in the process to take the 2nd spot.

It was a test of who had the better car Saturday night, as Awtey, Mignogna and Smith are equally talented drivers. While Mignogna and Awtey battled for the lead, further back in the pack, the #59 of Kyle Martel struggled to hang on after starting 3rd as the #96 of Mark Poole, the 95 of Garry Wiltrout and the #23 of Dusty Rhoads were able to get past him until a caution on lap 30 by a spin coming off of Turn 4 by the car of Dusty Rhoads brought the field close again until another caution on the restart postponed the restart longer.

On the restart, Martel was able to get past the 5H of Howsare. On the restart after a caution by the 00 and the 91 of Jason Miller, Mignogna was able to take the lead from Awtey to celebrate for the second week in a row and his third time this season.

In the Budweiser Hobby Stocks, it was a normal night as the #27 of Steve Long and the #23 of Eugene Zerfoss dominated the field. On lap 2, Long was able to take the lead from the 77 of Robert Foy only to hold the lead until a flat right front caused him to spin going into turn 3 taking him out of the race leaving Zerfoss next in line for the lead. Zerfoss is currently 1st in points after celebrating for the 3rd time this season in victory lane.

It was another win for the Kostelnik family Saturday night as the brothers finished 1-2 with the younger of the 2 brothers, Andrew Kostelnik taking the checkers. The brothers ran 1-2 after a caution on lap 8 caused by the #19 of  Scott Bowman brought the two nose to tail. Currently Adam Kostelnik is the points leader with 4 victories so far this season. Andrew celebrated in victory for his 3rd time this season.

Saturday night, Jennerstown Speedway featured the Modifieds which only run several times each season at the Speedway. The last time the modifieds raced at Jennerstown, it was a dominate night for Adam Kostelnik as he won both the Street Stock feature and the Modified feature. Yet, this time around it was West Mifflin’s, James Nicola who was able to hold off Kostelnik to take the checkered.
