Thunder continued to
rumble on the mountain for the Kenny Ross Chevrolet / Cadillac night at
the races.
The battle continues
for the top spot at the half-way point to the Jennerstown Speedway 2007
race season in the super late model division. Mark Smith in the
Meyersdale #94 led the race over a tight top six positions battling for
the lead. Caution found lap twenty-five when the #95 of Garry Wiltrout
helped Smith find the wall going into turn one. Wiltrout was sent to
the back for the incident bringing the #07 of Jason Mignogna, third in
points, to the front for the restart over point leader Barry Awtey in
the Jenners #75. Unfortunately, Smith would not make it back to the
asphalt. Wiltrout would try to make it back up through the field while
the top five positions remained unchanged through the final laps.
Mignogna would go unchallenged until the final lap but Awtey would not
have enough to steal the second victory away from the #07. The top five
positions would remain the same from the restart on lap 25 with Mark
Poole, Rick Boyer and Mark Cottone rounding out the five positions.
Garry Wiltrout continued to make a charge for the front but would come
up short in the seventh spot.
The #75 of Phil Grubbs
and Jason Holder in the #74 would jump out to the early battle on the
half-mile oval in the Somerset Trust Company 20 lap feature event.
However, on the restart following caution on lap eight, the Kostelnik
brothers would take over that battle for the Kenny Ross trophy. Andrew
Kostelnik, in the #57, would hold off his brother Adam’s hard charge
from the eleventh position until lap eleven when the brothers would
begin a side by side battle trading the inside line every turn. Andrew
would finally lose the battle on lap sixteen when Adam’s #05 slipped
past. Adam, the current point leader, held on to the top spot taking
the checkered with Andrew, Holder, Bryan Awtey and Grubbs following
behind in the top five positions.
Deidre Petrie in the
#0 would finally upset the first place dynasty that the #27 of Steve
Long and #23 Eugene Zerefoss had for the past five weeks in the
Budweiser hobby stock division. Petrie would pass for the lead on lap
three and never look back as Long and Zerefoss battled from the back.
Long would finish second and continue to hold the point lead over
Zerefoss, the event’s third place finisher. The top five positions
would finish with the #83 of Matt Server and #13 of Angelo Codispoti in
the fifteen lap run for the checkered. |
