POOLE
VICTORIOUS ON BENSON INT. CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT FINALE
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Sept. 16) … Mark Poole won the battle Saturday evening
at Jennerstown Speedway by driving to victory in the 40-lap Benson
International Championship Night super late model feature event. But, it
was Meyersdale’s Mark Smith who won the war by claiming the 2006
Courtesy Suzuki NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series point championship with a
third place finish.
Poole,
who picked-up his third checkered flag of the season, got past Todd
Goble on Lap six of the feature, and then cruised to an easy win to nail
down a close second behind Smith in the point chase.
“I was
thrilled to win on opening night, and then being able to win two more
during the year,” said an emotional Poole in victory lane. “If it wasn’t
for one bad night we might have been celebrating the track championship
instead of Mark (Smith). But, congratulations to his team… we raced
hard against each other all year.”
Goble
held off Smith to finish in the runner-up slot, while team mates Garry
Wiltrout and Bobby Henry rounded out the top five. ASA late model series
competitor Michael Annett finished sixth, trailed by Barry Awtey, Todd
Price, Tommy Beck, and Jeff Dunmyer.
Dusty
Rhoads captured his eighth WJAC-TV late model victory, and clinched his
second consecutive divisional title, by driving past Snooky Williams on
the 12th lap of the 20 lap main event. The front running duo
was followed home by Mel Wilt, Matt Howsare and Chris Brink.
Adam
Kostelnik clinched the Advance Auto Parts street stock championship by
winning the first of two 20-lap feature contests. Kostelnik ran down
early pace setter Phill Grubbs to annex his eighth win at the Somerset
County half-mile paved oval. Scott Bowman finished a close third in
front of Steve Singo and Andrew Kostelnik.
Little
brother, Andrew Kostelnik, turned the tables in the street stock night
cap, defeating older brother Adam to win his first Jennerstown event.
Grubbs, Bowman and Todd Knight finished third through fifth.
Doug Long
held off title contenders Eugene Zerfoss and John Steeley to win the
hobby stock finale. Scot McCall and Brandon Bittner completed the
top-five. Steely edged Zerfoss for championship honors by eight points.
Ron
Robbins won the super mini cup feature contest.
