POOLE VICTORIOUS IN
JENNERSTOWN OPENER
JENNERSTOWN, PA (May
6, 2006) … Mark Poole set the speed benchmark in pre-season practice
runs at Jennerstown Speedway, and then backed it up in the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series season opener Saturday evening by cruising to a dominating
victory in the 40-lap Courtesy Suzuki super late model feature event on
the half-mile asphalt oval.
The Eighty-Four driver
led the 17-car field to the starting line and jumped into command at the
drop of the green flag and never looked back, leading every lap of the
event.
“That race was a piece
of cake,” Poole said from victory lane. “It was so much fun. I’m not
used to starting in the front. I’m really excited… I wanted to get this
first win.”
Rick Boyer, driving
one of the new ‘crate’ engine powered cars was able to keep Poole in his
sights for the entire distance, but never was able to mount a serious
passing threat.
The race was
red-flagged on the 13th lap when the cars of Marion Reno and
Robert DeLanoy crashed into the Turn One retaining wall, with DeLanoy’s
machine catching on fire. Neither driver was injured in the melee.
Mark Smith finished a
distant third, holding off Garry Wiltrout and Barry Awtey. Todd Price,
Todd Goble, Jason Mignogna, Jason Lasky and Chantal Germek rounded out
the top-10.
Dusty Rhoads went
wire-to-wire to win the 25-lap WJAC-TV late model event over Wade
Champeno, Mel Wilt, Dink Colarusso and rookie Mark Rend.
The 20-lap Advance
Auto Parts street stock race was dominated by Josh Dunmyer, who led
every circuit. Phil Grubbs and Scott Bowman engaged in a spirited
battle for the second slot, with Grubbs coming out on top. Roger Onstead
and Todd Knight rounded out the top five finishers.
John Steeley put on an
impressive drive in 15-lap Fox’s Pizza Den main by running down early
pacesetter Eugene Zerfoss on lap 10 to take the lead. Zerfoss hung on
for second, edging Scott McCall, Deidre Petrie, and Ted Gibala Jr.
