TIM
BAINEY, JR.WINS ARMED FORCES SALUTE AT JENNERSTOWN
JENNERSTOWN PA (May 20) … Hooters ProCup driver Tim Bainey Jr made an
infrequent visit to Jennerstown Speedway Saturday evening, and dove into
victory lane in the 40-lap Courtesy Suzuki NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
super late model feature contest on JLG Industries ‘Armed Forces Salute
night.
After
starting 12th on the field the Osceola Mills driver moved
into the third position on Lap 20 behind front runners Mark Smith and
opening night feature winner Mark Poole.
Smith and
Poole were locked in a tight battle for the top spot when they tangled
going into the first turn with two laps remaining. Bainey was able to
thread the needle between the spinning cars to annex his first ever win
at the Somerset County half-mile oval.
“I can’t
tell you how much this win means to me,” said Bainey, “We’ve been coming
here a long time … my father used to race here back in the dirt track
days. We race all over the country, but I’ll tell you, there is no
tougher place anywhere than Jennerstown to win a race.”
Rick
Boyer collected his second runner-up finish of the young season ahead of
Kyle Martel, who led the first 15 circuits. The first three finishing
cars were powered by the new lower cost ‘crate’ engines that have been
integrated into the class.
Barry
Awtey and Paul Urso finished fourth and fifth. Jason Mignogna, Smith,
Marion Reno Jr., Poole and Steve Black rounded out the top-10.
Altoona’s
Mel Wilt drove by Chris Brink with only five laps remaining in the WJAC-TV
late model feature to pick up his first win of the year. Brink, a rookie
in the class, held off defending champion Dusty Rhoads, Dink Colarusso
and Andrew Wylie at the checker.
Adam
Kostelnik led wire to wire in the 20-lap Advance Auto Parts street stock
main to win convincingly over Roger Onstead, George Nicola, Andrew
Kostelnik and Bill Ashton.
Scott
McCall won a hard fought duel with opening night victor John Steeley to
take the honors in the 15-lap hobby stock finale. Deidre Petrie was
third, trailed by Ted Gibala Jr. and Steve Long.
