CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY FOR KYLE MARTEL AT JENNERSTOWN

JENNERSTOWN, PA (Aug. 26) … The holidays came five months early for Kyle Martel Saturday evening at Jennerstown Speedway, as the Lebanon teenager raced to his third Courtesy Suzuki 40-lap super late model victory of the season during the Tom Clark Auto Family ‘Christmas in August’ fan appreciation night special attraction at the Laurel Highlands half-mile asphalt oval.

Martel, driving a car powered by a low cost Chevrolet ‘crate’ engine, started fifth in the field and chased down early pace setter Jeff Dunmyer on Lap 11 to take command. Once in front Martel continued to build up his advantage, eventually winning by over a half straight margin over Mark Poole, who moved into second on the 22nd circuit.

“I owe everything to the guys who work on the car,” said Martel from Victory Lane. “They make it happen every week. I had an absolutely dream car to drive tonight. I can’t even begin to describe how awesome it really was tonight. .Consistency was the key factor.”

Current point leader Mark Smith finished a distant third, followed by Barry Awtey, recovering from an early race incident and former track champion Dunmyer, who recorded his best finish of the season.

Garry Wiltrout, Tim Bainey Jr., Mark Cottone, Todd Price and Marion Reno Jr. rounded out the top-10.

Chris Brink recorded his first ever victory in the 20-lap WJAC-TV late model feature, holding off the advances of point leader Dusty Rhoads, who applied constant pressure after recovering from a first lap multi-car altercation. Veteran Snooky Williams was third, ahead of Dan Brink and Todd Corson.

Current Advance Auto Parts street stock point leader  Adam Kostelnik returned to the winners circle in the 15-lap main, by out driving Todd Knight, Scott Bowman Bill Ashton and Bobby Young to pick-up his eighth checkered flag of the campaign.

Greensburg driver John Steeley won his third hobby stock feature event, which in turn moved him into the division point lead.

Steeley assumed the front spot on the fifth go-round, and held off a fast closing Scott McCall, Steve Long, Eugene Zerfoss and Teddy Gibal in the evening nightcap.
