RAIN
VICTORIOUS ON JENNERSTOWN EMERGENCY SERVICE NIGHT
JENNERSTOWN, PA (May 19) …Heavy rain showers, along with severe thunder
and lightening, brought an abrupt end to Saturday evenings NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series racing action at Jennerstown Speedway.
The
program was cancelled following the completion of the qualifying heats,
and as the hobby stock feature was pulling onto the half-mile paved oval
for the start of the first of four feature events.
Also
falling victim to the weather was the big Emergency Service Night
Appreciation feature presented by Somerset Hospital and the Somerset
Daily-American. The fire show to be performed by Pat Davidson, driver of
‘Under Pressure’, the world’s fastest jet-powered ambulance also had to
be cancelled.
“We
normally try to wait out a rain shower to see if we can dry off the
track and continue racing,” said Jennerstown General Manager Larry
Mattingly. “However, the radar indicated that the storm was going to be
severe, and would probably last for several hours. We have to put the
safety of our fans and competitors up front.”
Even
though the heat races were completed, which constitutes a complete show,
speedway officials announced that they will honor all rain checks for
next Saturday nights ‘Christmas in August’ Fan Appreciation attraction,
which will feature bike races for the kids and a fireworks exhibition at
the completion of the races.
“We had
such a great crowd on hand, despite the forecast of rain, that we
wanted all the fans who supported us to see a full program of racing,”
said Mattingly.
