JENNERSTOWN CLOSES
SEASON WITH HOOTERS PROCUP 250
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Sept.
26) … Jennerstown Speedway will ring down the curtain on the 2006 season
this Saturday evening when the half-mile Somerset County speed plant
plays host to the ‘Charlie Campbell Memorial’ Miller Lite 250 presented
by Predator Performance. The event will mark the second leg of the
prestigious six-race United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooters ProCup
National Championship series.
The annual Jennerstown
event, which pits the best drivers from the USAR North and South
divisions together to decide the Hooters ProCup National Champion, is
shaping up to be the biggest sectional battle since the Gettysburg Civil
War confrontation.
Six Northern Division
drivers are currently in the top-10 positions following the opening race
two-weeks ago at the all new Iowa Speedway. However, it is Southern
Division champion Clay Rogers of Mooresville, NC that is sitting atop
the point chase.
Rogers, the 2004 USAR
champion, has combined a championship co-top seed and a seventh-place
finish in the opener to lead the 44-car field into the Jennerstown fray.
Northern campaigner
Woody Howard, who captured the Iowa contest, is currently 16-points down
in second place, while defending Northern and National Champion Benny
Gordon is third, 26 markers off the pace.
Gordon started the
championship series tied for first with Rogers, but a 15th place finish
in the Hawkeye State has placed him behind the eight-ball. After
dominating the early season action, Gordon has hit a late-season slump,
and will need a strong showing at the Laurel Highlands oval to get back
on track.
Gordon
considers Jennerstown to be his ‘home track’, and the DuBois resident
has had a great deal of success in the past, winning two races and
setting the current one-lap track record. Gordon dominated the spring
Hooters ProCup event, before giving way to eventual winner Shelby
Howard.
Johnny Rumley, who has
taken over the Dale Earnhardt Jr-owned ride vacated by Shane Huffman, is
fourth in the standings, followed by Daniel Johnson, who was second in
the Iowa race. Howard, Shane Wallace, Lonnie Rush Jr., Bobby Gill and
Jeff Agnew round out the top-10. Rumley, Howard, Gill and Agnew are all
former winners at Jennerstown. Also entered in the event is two-time
Jennerstown victor Mardy Lindley, who currently rides 13th in
points.
Other notable entries
include: 16-year old Joe Gibbs developmental driver Joey Logano, the
second place finisher in the 2005 Jennerstown championship contest, Tim
Bainey Jr, Eric Corbett, former NASCAR Elite Series champion Jeff Fultz,
and Gary St.Amant, a multi-time American Speed Association champion.
The Miller Lite 250
will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on the SPEED Channel national
cable system on Wed. Oct. 4 and Fri. Oct. 6.
Advance $15.00
discount tickets are still available through Thursday Sept. 28 on-line
at
www.jennerstown.com, or by calling 1-888 695-0888. Race day tickets
will be $25.00 for adults, while kids, age 12 and under, will be
admitted free.
Spectator gates open
at 2:00 pm, with time trials set for 4:30. An on-track autograph session
will be staged at 5:45 pm, with the Miller Lite 250 scheduled to receive
the green flag at 7:00.
Rain date for the
event is Sunday, Oct. 1.
