Andrew Rogers Ready For USAR
Hooters Pro Cup Test At Jennerstown
As a USAR Hooters Pro Cup Southern Division
competitor, Andrew Rogers doesn't compete at Jennerstown Speedway on a
regular basis. Rogers still thinks he'll be up to the test when the
second
race of the 2006 USAR Hooters Pro Cup Four Champions Series takes the
green flag at the half-mile Pennsylvania oval Saturday, September 30.
"We'll have done a ton of testing for
this race by the time it goes green Saturday night," said Rogers. "We
had a test day at Tri-County this week and the plan is to be at the
track Friday the day before the race to test. We also raced in the North
Series race at Jennerstown back in May as a test for now and the
championship season. We'll definitely be ready."
Rogers and his team stepped back and
didn't compete in the first 2006 USAR championship race at Iowa Speedway
after a turbulent end to the season that started with a car demolishing
wreck at Peach State Speedway in Georgia in mid August.
"We
literally team literally built a new racecar from the ground up in the
week prior to the last race at Lakeland," Rogers (right) stated. "We
finished up late Friday and drove all night to get to the track Saturday
morning when the gates opened. Everyone worked their guts out in the
heat and at the end of the day, we went home exhausted and with another
bent up racecar. We just needed to catch our breath, so we decided to
sit out Iowa."
In addition to getting the No. 18
Termidor/Aaron's Rents/Forshaw Distribution Pontiac Grand Prix back in
racing trim, the Mike Rogers Racing made an internal adjustment hiring
Teddy Brown as the team's new crew chief.
"We're really fortunate to have Teddy
join our team," stated Andrew Rogers. "Teddy has a lot of great
experience in both the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series and is
going to apply that knowledge to our efforts. He's already identified a
couple of changes we're going to make for Jennerstown that we think are
going to make us faster. His great knowledge of these cars is going to
be a big help to us."
Brown replaces Chris Rogers (below
left) - Andrew's uncle - as the team's crew chief.
"Chris
was awesome for us," Rogers stated. "But he's a family man and all the
extra hours we put in before Lakeland made him realize he needed to be
spending more time with his family. Totally understood - family comes
first. He's my uncle."
Armed with a refreshed racecar, a
revitalized race team, and a new perspective on top of the pit box,
Rogers is confident heading into the Charlie Campbell Memorial 250 at
Jennerstown.
"We ran pretty well at Jennerstown in
the regular-season Northern race back in May," said Rogers, who finished
11th I the event. "I know we have an excellent chance of doing better
than that this time around. I know it hurt us in the championship points
to not race at Iowa, but we're definitely ready for the final five
races. We think we can contend to win races and still finish in the
Top-10 in the championship points. We're looking forward to getting that
started at Jennerstown."
Rogers will get the Jennerstown USAR
Hooters Pro Cup championship weekend going early with a personal
appearance at the Aaron's Rents Store in nearby Johnstown, PA. Friday,
September 29.
Rogers will be at the store signing
autographs from 5-7 p.m. Eastern Time.
Rogers will also bring the No. 18
Termidor/Aaron's Rents/Forshaw Distribution Race Simulator - a full-size
racecar with a video game in it - to the store appearance. Simulator
rides are free and great fun for all ages.
Fans
can also visit the Termidor/Aaron's Rents/Forshaw Distribution Trackside
Display and Race Simulators (pictured right) free of charge in the
Jennerstown Speedway souvenir/display area throughout the day Saturday.
Saturday's Charlie Campbell Memorial 250
at Jennerstown will take the green flag at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The race
will be telecast on a taped-delayed basis by The SPEED Channel on
Wednesday, October 4 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
