LOCAL DRIVERS GEAR
UP FOR JENNERSTOWN HOOTERS PROCUP RACE
JENNERSTOWN, PA (May
23) … It will be homecoming this Saturday at Jennerstown Speedway during
the running of the Hooters ProCup series ‘Giant Food Stores 250’
presented by Predator Performance, as six drivers who cut their teeth at
the Somerset County half mile paved oval have entered the competition.
|
Leading the
charge is Osceola Mills driver Tim Bainey Jr, who splits his
time competing on the United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR)
Hooters ProCup North division circuit, and racing in the
Jennerstown NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series super late model class.
“We’re running
full time for the USAR championship,” Bainey said. “Last year
we ended up 10th in the final points. This year we’ve
had a pretty rough start, recording three DNF’s out of four
races. We are hoping to turn things around at Jennerstown..” |

If last week is any
indication Bainey’s luck may be changing, as the 27 year old driver
captured his first-ever Jennerstown victory in the Courtesy Suzuki
40-lap super late model feature.
“That win was big for
our entire team,” said Bainey. “From a confidence level it certainly
doesn’t hurt to pick-up a win and then come back for the Hooters race.
The cars are completely different, but just getting seat time on the
track is a big plus.”

Another
Jennerstown regular throwing his hat into the Hooters ring is
Greensburg chauffeur Jason Mignogna.
Mignogna was a
regular on the USAR tour in 2005, but has decided to only run
selected races this year while returning to the weekly
Jennerstown wars.
“Just the
amount of time and money that it takes to run a full Hooters
season is more than our team can handle at this time, so we
decided to run a super late model at Jennerstown this season,”
Mignogna said. |

Thus far Mignogna has
two tenth place finishes to show for his weekly Jennerstown efforts.
“There is a big difference between the Hooters and Jennerstown cars,’
said Mignogna. “You have to manhandle the super late models, and with
the Hooters car you need to use a little more finesse.”
Other drivers on the
entry list with local ties include: former pro truck track champion
Aaron Will (Marysville), Todd Peck (Glenville), Eric Corbett (Clear
Spring, MD), and defending USAR National Champion Benny Gordon (DuBois).
The Jennerstown Giant
Food Stores 250 will be nationally televised by the SPEED Channel on a
tape-delay basis.
