Tim Bainey Jr. and the DelGrosso Racing Team Win
at Jennerstown Speedway for a Friend
May
20th, 2006
In just their first outing of the 2006 season,
Tim Bainey Jr. and the DelGrosso Racing Team
took home their first ever Victory in the Nascar
Super Late Model Event at Jennerstown Speedway
Saturday Night.
“This is great, I can’t tell you how much it
means to have the DelGrosso Car in Victory Lane
tonight,” Tim Jr. said with a smile as he
climbed out the window with the checkered flag
in hand.
It was a very impressive run for the DelGrosso
Team, the New #15 Ford Fusion looked flawless
throughout the main event – but there was an
even stronger impression felt throughout the
team as the Black #15 pulled into victory lane.
“This one for Tom Riley,” said Tim Jr. with an
even bigger smile. “We lost him in November, but
we all know he was here tonight. Without him
there wouldn’t be a DelGrosso Racing Team, and I
just can’t say how much we miss that guy.”
“He was the one who really took me in and
introduced us to the DelGrosso Family. He knew
there would be a great chemistry between our
families and convinced them we needed to have a
DelGrosso/Bainey Racing Team. Now it would be
hard to imagine it any other way.”
Those feelings were echoed throughout the team.
“This was just one of those nights that was
meant to be,” said Tim Bainey Sr. “It’s been
tough on everyone, me and the boys talked over
the winter and we decided that we were going to
do whatever it took to get this thing to victory
lane for Tom. And wouldn’t you know it – here we
are on the first night out.”
“This is what we needed, it means a lot for so
many reasons,” said Crew Chief Dan Bainey. “It’s
really just what we needed right now for
everyone that is part of the DelGrosso Racing
Team."
As for how Tim Jr. managed to get the #15
DelGrosso Ford Fusion into Victory Lane, it was
no easy task.
Tim Jr. would start the night’s event from the
12th position. He wasted little time
in making his way up through the field as he
maneuvered the DelGrosso Car up through the
pack. By the halfway mark he was into the top-5.
Working his way into the top-3, Tim Jr. set his
sights on the leaders. He moved into second
before a late race caution, setting up what
turned into a 3-way shootout for the win.
With less than 5 laps to go, the other two cars
got together sending up a cloud of smoke and two
cars spinning. Tim Jr. and the #15 DelGrosso
Ford emerged from the smoke as the leader, and
would line up for a 2 lap shootout at the front
of the field. Tim Jr. would pull away from the 2nd
place car and drive on to the First Ever Win for
the DelGrosso Racing Team.
It was a rewarding victory for the Family
Operated Team, as Tim Jr. mentioned in his post
race interview. When he said, “This means so
much”, he meant it.
“I have to thank my mom and dad for everything
they have done to help us get this far. I
remember coming down here with my brothers when
we were little to watch our dad, we played
matchbox cars right up there in the stands.
Watching our dad back then was better than
anything as kids, seeing him race out here meant
the world to us. He has been the best dad any
kid could ever ask for…”
“And my mom, she has always been the strongest
supporter we have. She goes out of her way for
us, she puts as much into this team as anyone.”
“My brothers Meat (Dan) and Randy, they are the
best. We spend so much time together working on
this racing stuff. This isn’t an easy thing to
do, but that is what makes it so rewarding to
us. We work together no matter what the
situation, and we always know we can count on
each other. It means a lot to have them with
me.”
“My girlfriend Nikki, she likes this racing
stuff, and she has given up a lot to do this
with me. She loves the DelGrosso Racing Team,
and spent a lot of time with me and Colonel Tom
(Tom Riley) putting this deal together.”
“My pap was here tonight, he really helps me out
a lot during the week. And Gray is here with us
every week, he makes about every event we go to
– I have to thank those guys a lot. I also want
to thank all the guys who help us on our
Hooter’s team for the stuff they do, if it
wasn’t for their help this would be a lot
harder.”
“For the whole DelGrosso Family, I can’t thank
them enough. It’s turned into a relationship
that goes way beyond the race track. They are
such a great family, they remind me so much of
my own – I guess that is why it works out so
well.”
“It was great to have Joe, Joey, and Freddy here
tonight with their families, along with one of
my best friends Jeff Ingram and his wife Paula.
Being in Victory Lane together for the first
time was something I will never forget.”
