POINT RACES AND
FIREWORKS HIGHLIGHT JENNERSTOWN RACES
JENNERSTOWN, PA (June
27) … The tightest point races in Jennerstown Speedway history, and a
gigantic fireworks exhibition will highlight this Saturday evenings
Advance Auto Parts Stars & Stripes Fan Appreciation Night at the
Somerset County entertainment complex.
“Three of our four
racing divisions feature point races that are deadlocked at the top of
the standings,” said track manager Larry Mattingly. “The goal is always
to get the competition as evenly balanced as possible. With three ties
for first place, it couldn’t be any closer.”
| Mark Poole, a two time feature
event winner, and Rick Boyer sit atop the Courtesy Suzuki super
late model standings with 180-points. Former track champion
Barry Awtey of Jenners is in the third position, only two-points
off the pace. Meyersdale’s Mark Smith, last seasons leading
feature winner, who thus far has been shut out of victory lane
in early action is only six markers back. Kyle Martel, who has
one win to his credit, rounds out the top-five. |

The WJAC-TV late
models has defending division champion Dusty Rhoads and challenger Mel
Wilt of Duncansville tied for first place, with Dink Colarusso closing
in from the third position.
In the hobby stock
class Eugene Zerfoss and Doug Long are in control with 216 points.
Double feature winner John Steeley is two points down, trailed by
Theodore Gibala Jr. and Deidre Petrie.
The only class that
doesn’t have a gridlock at the top is the Advance Auto Parts street
stocks. Friedens driver Roger Onstead leads Adam Kostelnik and Bill
Ashton by 10-points.
The special fan
appreciation night promotion also features an interactive display by the
U.S. Air Force, free American flags, and a big fireworks display to cap
the evenings activities.
Also on tap is an
on-track autograph session, where spectators will be permitted trackside
for a close-up view of the drivers and cars.
State Treasurer Bob
Casey will be on hand to greet spectators entering the speedway, and
will serve as the grand marshal for the event.
Gate admission is only
$4.00 for all seats. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 pm, with the
autograph session set to begin at 6:00. The first race will start at
7:00.
