JENNERSTOWN TO HOST
THUNDER CONCERTS
JENNERSTOWN,
PA (June 20)… The roar of racing engines will be replaced by the
piercing sounds of guitar music this weekend at Jennerstown Speedway, as
the Somerset County entertainment complex hosts two music concerts to
coincide with the annual Thunder in the Valley motorcycle rally held in
nearby Johnstown.
“We have been
exploring the idea of holding more concerts at Jennerstown,” said
speedway General Manager Larry Mattingly. “We hosted the ‘Rolling Rock
Town Fair’ last year. With over 200,000 motorcyclists in the area this
weekend, the idea of hosting twin-concerts seemed to be a natural
tie-in.”
The Povertyneck
Hillbillies, a native southwestern Pennsylvania band that is known
throughout the Eastern United States will headline the Friday, June 23
show. Highlighting the performance will be a rendition of the playful
single ‘Mr. Right Now’, the tearjerker ballad ‘Fly’, written by singer
Chris Abbondanza, ‘Coming To See You’, an up-tempo concert favorite
written by fiddle player Chris Higbee and a rollicking country remake of
Tonic’s ‘If You Could Only See’.
Other bands appearing
on Friday include NOMaD and Ford Thurstan .
The
Outlaws, a quintessential motorcycle rock band will roll into
Jennerstown on Saturday, June 24. Founded in 1972, ‘Florida’s Guitar
Army’ is still tearing up stages around the country with their special
blend of classic songs, scorching guitar solos and hallmark harmonies.
Concert goers will be treated to Outlaw classics such as: ‘There Goes
Another Love Song’, ‘Ghost Riders In The Sky’, ‘Green Grass and High
Tides’, and I Just Want To Play Rock ‘n Roll’.
Opening bands for the
Outlaws are Ruff Creek and The Fabulous Gunslingers.
“Our goal is to expand
our Thunder in the Valley program next year to include concerts, and
more motorcycle related events during the week,” Mattingly said.
Jennerstown Speedway
officials have announced that motorcycle enthusiasts may camp free of
charge on the speedway grounds on both Friday and Saturday evening.
