GREG BIFFLE ENTERS JENNERSTOWN ‘RACE of CHAMPIONS’ EVENT
JENNERSTOWN, PA (June 12) … The winningest driver of the
2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup season will be coming to
Jennerstown Speedway on Saturday Aug. 12 to compete in
the NASCAR ‘Race of Champions’ event.
Greg
Biffle, who captured six Cup events last season,
including an unbelievable five checkered flags in his
first 15 starts, has filed an entry for the unique
contest, joining veteran Kenny Wallace in the field. Two
more NASCAR stars will be announced at a later date..
The four drivers will compete in an exhibition race
using Jennerstown super late model cars and will also
participate in a pre-race autograph session.
Biffle,
who finished second in last seasons Nextel Cup point
race to Tony Stewart by 35 points, came to the NASCAR
major leagues from the short-tracks of the northwest,
and quickly made a name for himself.
“Biffle started out his career racing in the NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series at tracks similar to Jennerstown,
and won several championships in his native state of
Washington,” said General Manager Larry Mattingly
.”Greg’s roots are on the short-tracks and he makes
every effort to race on them when time allows in his
schedule.”
Joining Rousch Racing in 1998 following a recommendation
from former Cup champion Benny Parsons, Biffle was named
the Craftsman Truck Series rookie of the year, and went
on to win the truck championship two years later. The
Vancouver-driver duplicated the feat in the BUSCH Series
by winning that title in 2002.
Biffle
moved into Nextel Cup in 2003, and accomplished his life
time goal by winning the mid-summer race at Daytona Int.
Speedway.
Biffle’s NASCAR record shows 10 Nextel Cup victories ,
with his most recent coming this past May at the
Darlington, SC Raceway. Biffle also has 16 wins a piece
on both the BUSCH and Craftsman Truck circuits. Biffle
finished sixth in the Pocono 500 in Long Pond, PA this
past Sunday afternoon.
