ISMA SUPERMODIFIEDS
INVADE JENNERSTOWN SPEEDWAY
JENNERSTOWN, PA (July
4) … ‘The world’s fastest short-track cars’, in the form of the Wirtgen
International Super Modified Association (ISMA), will invade the
Jennerstown Speedway this Saturday evening to compete in a unique twin
30-lap feature format presented by Wheeler Bros., Inc.
And while Chris Perley,
the current track record holder at the Laurel Highlands half-mile paved
oval, would appear to be the driver to beat this weekend with two wins
already under his belt, no one is more excited and determined about the
Jennerstown event than young Massachusetts driver Kyle Carpenter.

“I had to
sit-out last years Jennerstown race after I broke my shoulder
blade in a crash at the Toledo (Ohio) Speedway the night
before,” said Carpenter. “I watched the race from the pits, and
I couldn’t believe how fast and competitive the racing is at
Jennerstown.
“Our cars are
averaging lap speeds of nearly 125 mph, which means we’re doing
160 mph plus on the straights,” he said. “Even though the track
looks fairly flat, other drivers tell me you can run nearly wide
open all the way around because of the big, sweeping corners. I
can’t wait to get out there.”
Carpenter, who
has been only driving the exotic supermodified machines for a
couple of seasons, indicated that the new twin 30-lap race
format is another reason he is excited about the Wheeler Bros.
contest.
“The polymer-base track surface
at Jennerstown gives us so much grip that it literally rips our
tires to shreds, ” Carpenter said. “With the old 50-lap formula
you had to take it easy during the first part of the race in an
effort to conserve the tires. With twin-30’s we can go flat out
from the drop of the green flag. There will be no holding back.” |

Aside from Perley, Pennsylvania pilots Nokie Fornoro and Lou
Cicconi have also collected victories on the ISMA circuit this
season. Others expected to be in the hunt for checkered flags
include Canadian drivers Dave McKnight, Mark Sammut, and Mike
Lichty.
Also on the
racing card will be a full program of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
action for the Courtesy Suzuki super late models, WJAC-TV late
models, Advance Auto Parts street stocks, and the hobby stocks. |
