BIRES LEADS ASA
LATE MODEL SERIES INTO JENNERSTOWN
JENNERSTOWN,
PA (July 19) … Current ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division point
leader Kelly Bires will head up the field for the Automotive Resources
Inc. AC Delco 200, scheduled for Saturday evening, July 29 at
Jennerstown Speedway.
Bires, a 22-year-old
rookie on the ASA circuit, has already won two series races this year
driving for the powerful WalTom Racing team. A graduate of the tough
Badger state super late model tracks, Bires, who hails from Mauston, WI,
will be hoping to duplicate former WalTom driver Stephen Licht’s 2005
performance at the Laurel Highlands half-mile paved speed plant.
Licht captured the
inaugural ASA Jennerstown contest, and then garnered the overall series
championship. Based on his ASA success, Licht was hired by the Robert
Yates Racing NASCAR operation, and will attempt to qualify for the next
two Nextel Cup races at Pocono Int. Raceway and the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway.
Other winners this
year on the ASA national tour include: Landon Cassill, a 17-year-old
developmental driver for the Joe Gibbs Racing
NASCAR
team, Jake Ryan, Eddie Hoffman, and Brian Campbell.
Expected to challenge
the ASA series regulars are several area drivers who normally compete in
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Jennerstown action. Throwing their hat in the
ASA ring will be: Rick Boyer, Garry Wiltrout and Kyle Martel, who
currently hold down fourth through sixth in the weekly points battle.
Also entering the fray will be multi-time Motordrome Speedway champion
Rick Miller.
Joining ASA on the
race card that evening will be the WJAC-TV late models, Advance Auto
Parts street stocks and the hobby stock division. Due to a scheduled
Mid-Atlantic Asphalt Racing Alliance event at the Lake Erie Speedway on
Sunday, June 30 the Courtesy Suzuki super late model class will not be
in competition.
Advance $15.00
discount admission tickets are available through July 27 on-line at
www.jennerstown.com, or by calling 1-888 695-0888. Race day gate
prices will be $25.00 for adults. Kids, age 12 and under, will be
admitted free of charge.
Spectator gates will
open at 2:00 pm, with the first race set to begin at 5:00. ASA will
present an on-track autograph session preceding the start of the
Automotive Resources Inc. AC Delco 200.
Rain date for the
event is Sunday, July 30..
