BAINEY GEARS UP FOR JENNERSTOWN RETURN THIS SATURDAY

JENNERSTOWN, PA (July 19) … Tim Bainey Jr. is batting a thousand percent at Jennerstown Speedway in 2006. He has competed just once in the Courtesy Suzuki super late model class, and was able to come home a surprise winner back in early May. The young Osecola Mills driver will be shooting for a repeat performance in this Saturday evenings Watkins Chevrolet  / Highland Harley-Davidson ‘Crusin’ Night’ attraction at the half-mile paved Somerset County oval.

“Our team really enjoys competing at Jennerstown,” said Bainey. “We’ve been so tied up with our Hooters ProCup program and various sponsor appearances, that it has been tough for us to make it back down.”

Bainey is just one of five different drivers who has tasted the fruits of Victory Lane. Former track champion Garry Wiltrout broke the ice last weekend, after suffering through a myriad of mechanical woes early in the season.

The hottest driver in the super late model division the past month has been Lebanon County teenager Kyle Martel, who has accounted for two convincing victories with his General Motors-powered ‘crate’ engine machine. Martel got caught up in a wild melee on the front straight last Sat., which saw the car of Jeff Dunmyer climb on top of his number 59 mount, then roll on to its roof.

“The car looked worse than it was,” said crew chief Bill Martel. “We had to replace most of the body and some interior panels. We’ll be ready to go this week, but it probably won’t look very pretty.”

Dunmyer. a multi-time track champion, and a former NASCAR Northeast Region title winner, is also shooting to return to competition this week, despite moderate damage to his Charlie Beam-owned car.

Watkins Chevrolet and Highland Harley-Davidson will combine to present a ‘Crusin’ Night’ special, which will feature classic cars and custom bikes on display. Free grandstand admission will be offered to anyone driving a Corvette, or riding a motorcycle to the track.

Dusty Rhoads (WJAC-TV late models) and Adam Kostelnik (Advance Auto Parts street stocks) will both be attempting to keep their winning streaks alive. Kostelnik has won six in a row, while Rhoads hasn’t been defeated in the past four weeks.

Seven different drivers have won in the hobby stock class, with Angelo Codispoti picking-up his first ever victory this past Saturday.

Adult admission is $8.00, while Kids 12 and under are free. Spectator gates open at 5:00 pm, with the first race set to begin at 6:00.
