JENNERSTOWN HONORS
EMS WORKERS THIS SATURDAY
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Aug.
15) … Jennerstown Speedway will honor ‘America’s Bravest’ this Saturday
evening when it stages its annual EMS Appreciation night along with a
full slate of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action on the half-mile
paved Somerset county oval.
“Having
been a volunteer firefighter I know first hand the long hours and
dedication that our emergency service personnel provide to local
communities in the area,” said track General Manager Larry Mattingly.
“The speedway dedicates a night each year to honor their service and to
say ‘thank you’ for the sacrifice and effort they make to maintain our
safety.”
To that end the
speedway will offer free admission to all EMS personnel who present a
service membership card and proof of identification at the admission
windows.
Highlighting the
special activities will be a parade of EMS apparatus and the special
appearance of ‘Under Pressure’, the world’s fastest jet-powered
ambulance.
Constructed
by Upton, Massachusetts builder/driver Pat Davidson, the ‘Under
Pressure’ vehicle appears to be a stock ambulance on the outside,
sporting a standard International cab and crew box. But, underneath it
is a pure race vehicle, featuring a hand-built chassis that contains a
massive J-79 jet engine that is capable of propelling the vehicle at
speeds of over 208 miles per hour, with a thrust of 18,000 pounds.
In NASCAR Courtesy
Suzuki super late model action current pace setter Mark Smith of
Meyersdale and Mark Poole will continue their battle for track
championship honors. Smith stretched his margin to 18-points after
finishing third in last week’s MAARA 100, while Poole was forced to
accept a sixth place finish after leading the first 75-laps of the
contest.
Dusty Rhoads and Adam
Kostelnik continue to maintain big leads in the WJAC-TV late models and
Advance Auto Parts street stocks respectively. The closest point race
remains in the hobby stock class where Acosta’s Eugene Zerfoss has only
a two point spread over John Steeley.
Adult admission for
the EMS Salute is $8.00, while kids 12 and under are admitted free of
charge,
Spectator gates open
at 5:00 pm, with racing set to begin at 6:00.
