JENNERSTOWN
CELEBRATES NATIONAL KIDS DAY THIS SAT.
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Aug
1) … Youth will be in the spotlight this Saturday evening at Jennerstown
Speedway, as the Somerset County entertainment complex presents a number
of special attractions to celebrate National Kids Day.
“We’re
going to have something for kids of all ages,” said General Manager
Larry Mattingly. “We have a bicycle stunt team, clowns, the Frito Lay
Cheetos mascot, go-kart races, face painting and capping everything off
will be a big fireworks show. There should be something for everyone.”
The X-Factor Tour,
featuring high flying BMX riders, in-line skaters and a skateboard team
will perform a number of thrill acts throughout the course of the
program.
“These thrill shows
have become very popular on reality TV programming, and eventually have
evolved into a legitimate sport over the past several years,” Mattingly
said. “I saw an X-Factor show last year at an indoor arena, and
immediately knew it would be perfect for our Jennerstown audience.”
Also on tap is a full
program of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action featuring the
Courtesy Suzuki super late models, WJAC-TV late models, Advance Auto
Parts street stocks and the hobby stock division.
Mark Poole will be
looking to stretch his current 10-point margin over second place Mark
Smith in the 40-lap super late model feature attraction. The high-flying
duo have separated themselves from the remainder of the pack, as
third-place Barry Awtey trails by 32-markers. Rick Boyer and Garry
Wiltrout round out the top-five.
Mark
Rend, a nephew of multi-time track champion and former NASCAR Northeast
champion Steve Peles, will be looking for his second victory of the
season in the late model class. Dusty Rhoads still maintains a healthy
20-point bulge over Mel Wilt, despite the fact he has been shut out of
Victory Lane the past twoo race meets.
There appears to be no
stopping Adam Kostelnik in the street stock division, as the East
McKeesport driver recorded his seventh consecutive feature win this past
Saturday. Phil Grubbs is still within striking distance, but trails by
28-points.
The closest point
battle is in the hobby stock class, where leader John Steeley is hanging
on to a four-point margin over Eugene Zerfoss and Teddy Gibala Jr.
Adult admission is
$8.00, while kids, age 12 and under, will be admitted free. Free
admission will also be granted to all scouts coming to the races in
uniform.
Spectator gates open
at 5:00 pm, with the first race set to begin at 6:00 pm.
