Jennerstown cancels night of destruction
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Sept.1, 2005) … Jennerstown Speedway
has cancelled its ‘Night of Destruction’ promotion,
scheduled for Saturday, Sept 10.
“We
ran into a myriad of problems attempting to put the
program together,” said speedway general manager Larry
Mattingly. “In retrospect scheduling the program this
late in the season was the biggest hurdle. If we carried
through with the show next Sat. in its present format,
it was going to end up being a ‘second class’
performance. That’s not how we do things at Jennerstown.
We would rather cancel, than give our fans a second rate
show.”
Jennerstown has not given up on the concept of the show,
or presenting other thrill show acts at the half mile
asphalt Somerset County oval.
“On
the contrary,” Mattingly said, “we plan to sit down with
the thrill show agencies at the end of the season and
schedule an earlier summer date. We feel a ‘Night of
Destruction’ spectacular has great entertainment
potential, but we need to do a better job doing our
homework.
“We
know that thrill-show type acts are popular,” he added.
“The high flying free style motocross performers we
brought in during late June produced one of our better
crowds and left our fans wanting more.”
Jennerstown will now be dark on Sept. 10, but will
return to action on Sept 17 with a ‘Halloween … a month
early’ special. In the spotlight will be twin 30-lap
features for the Wheeler Bros. super late models and a
50-lap National Allison legacy race. In addition, any
fan dressed in full costume will be admitted free. There
will also be special Halloween activities for children
in the Kids’ Fun Zone.
