JEnnerstown drops pa legacy series for 2006
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Oct.
5, 2005) … Jennerstown Speedway announced that it is dropping the PA
legacy series from its weekly race card in 2006.
The cars are powered
by sealed Mazda four cylinder engines, and are smaller five eighths
scale versions of the speedway’s headline super late model division. The
class has been a staple at the Somerset County half-mile asphalt oval
since 1996.
“It was a tough
decision to make,” said speedway General Manager Larry Mattingly. “The
legacy cars have been a part of our program for the past nine seasons.
The class has produced drivers such as Brian Vickers, Ryan Hemphill,
Jayme Beck and Kyle Martel. But, from a business perspective we needed
to make a change.
“It has been our goal
to reduce the number of weekly divisions to four,” he stated. “We
haven’t seen much growth in the legacy class over the past three years,
and that is what prompted the move.”
Jennerstown will now
feature super late models, late models, street stocks and hobby stocks
on its weekly Saturday evening race program.
“Scaling back to four
classes also permits us to increase our added value entertainment
programs, and still maintain a three hour race program,” Mattingly said.
“With the demise of the legacy division there will be a greater emphasis
placed on our entry level hobby stock program. We saw the hobby fields
double in size this year, and we are projecting even bigger fields in
2006.”
