BECK looking to become third jennerstown winner
JENNERSTOWN, PA (May 31, 2005) … Murrysville super late
model driver Tommy Beck will be looking to kick down the
door to Victory Lane this Saturday evening at
Jennerstown Speedway in NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action.
Beck,
who has recorded second and fourth place finishes in his
initial early season outings, will actually have two
opportunities for a checkered flag this Saturday, as the
half-mile paved Somerset County oval will contest twin
30-lap feature races instead of the normal single 50-lap
attraction.
“Our
team is off to its best start in quite awhile,” Beck
said. “The chassis set-up is working very well, and our
motor program with JET Engines is giving us the power we
need to run up front.”
That’s
the good news. The bad news is that Beck lost his
primary sponsor over the winter, and has been forced to
cut back his racing efforts to one night per week.
“We’re
on the edge financially, and can’t really afford to tear
up the car or the engine,” said the University of
Pittsburgh mechanical engineering graduate. “”We don’t
have as many resources as the bigger teams, but if we
can avoid the big problems, I feel we should be in the
hunt for a track championship.
“We
enjoy racing as much as possible, but running just once
a week allows us to focus our attention on Jennerstown.
We picked off a win last year, and we appear to be fast
again there this year,” he added. “Hopefully our luck
will continue to hold.”
Also
appearing on the six-division racing card will be
competition for the late model, street stock, PA legacy,
hobby stock and super mini-cup classes.
Jennerstown will also celebrate the beginning of the
summer season with a ‘School’s Out Escape’ promotion.
Appearing as part of the entertainment attraction will
be drag racer Ken Nelson and his crowd pleasing ‘Cool
School Bus Wheel Stander’. Powered by a 1,000 horsepower
blown and injected big block Chevrolet engine, the
yellow school bus replica will travel the length of the
Jennerstown front straight on its rear wheels in a
shower of sparks.
There
will also be an opportunity for kids to meet cartoon
character Sponge Bob Squarepants and the speedway’s own
mascot, Thunder the Roadrunner.
Adult
general admission is $7.00, with special pricing for
seniors, students and children. Kids age 6 and under are
admitted free. Spectator gates open at 5:00 PM, with the
first qualifying race set to begin at 6:30.
