Clarification concerning Smith jennerstown
disqualification
JENNERSTOWN, PA (June 9, 2005) … The disqualification of
Mark Smith from the June 4th super late model
events at Jennerstown Speedway was due to the discovery
of a non-operating traction control device found within
his car.
Jennerstown officials stripped Smith of a victory and a
sixth-place finish in last Saturday evenings twin 30-lap
contests, after consulting with NASCAR officials Jerry
Cook and Don Hawk. Smith also forfeited all points and
prize money earned that night.
The
$1,000 fine levied against Smith was also enacted by
Jennerstown Speedway, not NASCAR as previously
indicated.
“Local
track practices supersede the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
manual,” said track manger Larry Mattingly. “The
Jennerstown rule book outlines penalties regarding
traction control devices. Therefore, all fines and
penalties were issued by the speedway, not NASCAR.”
Jennerstown Speedway apologizes for any misunderstanding
concerning which organization imposed the
disqualification and monetary fine concerning the
incident.
