JENNERSTOWN KICKS OFF independence weekend with a bang
JENNERSTOWN, PA (June 28, 2005) … Jennerstown Speedway
will start the Independence Day weekend on the fast
track this Saturday evening, as the Somerset County oval
presents the Advance Auto Parts Stars and Stripes Fan
Appreciation Night special.
“This
Saturday is one of our five designated fan appreciation
nights,” said general manager Larry Mattingly. “We’ve
lowered our general admission price to $3.00 and we
literally have something for everyone… young or old.”
Starting off the evening’s activities will be an
on-track autograph and photo session where fans will be
invited on to the race track to meet the competitors and
get an up close view of the cars.
Also
on tap will be a ‘Faster Pastor’ race, featuring over 20
area clergy members competing in special exhibition
events. “This is a make-up for the June 11th
show that was rained out,” said Mattingly. “We have
churches from five different counties represented. The
pastors and their congregations should have a great
time.”
But
the fun doesn’t stop there. The United States Air Force
will be distributing free American flags and will also
be displaying Ricky Rudd’s NASCAR Nextel Cup show car.
Altoona Curve mascots, Steamer and Diesel Dawg, will be
on hand to interact with speedway mascot Thunder. And,
capping off the evening will be one of the area’s
largest fireworks shows.
The
racing action will feature a five-division NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series program, highlighted by a 50-lap
attraction for the super late model division. Bobby
Henry and Mark Smith were victorious in last week’s twin
30-lap presentation. Smith has been the hottest driver
in competition thus far, accounting for three wins in
the seven races that have been contested.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM, while the on-track
autograph session is set to run from 5:30 to 6:30. The
first event is set to receive the green flag at 6:45.
