Jennerstown to feature motorcycle spectacular
JENNERSTOWN, PA (June 21, 2005) … Fast cars, and fast
motorcycles will be in the spotlight at Jennerstown
Speedway this Saturday evening, as the half-mile asphalt
Laurel Highlands oval salutes the City of Johnstown’s
‘Thunder in the Valley’ motorcycle rally.
In
addition to the five-division NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
racing program, the World Stunts FMX tour will be making
a special appearance at the Somerset County
entertainment complex. Showcasing some of the top
freestyle motocross riders in the nation, the team of
FMX riders will launch an awesome air assault
exhibition, as they jump their motorcycles from a
mechanical take-off ramp and soar 85 feet in the air.
In
NASCAR on-track action Meyersdale’s Mark Smith will
attempt to continue his hot hand in this weeks twin
30-lap super late model division feature attractions.
The
17-year racing veteran was the class of the field last
week, driving his Bill Richter Motorsports Ford Taurus
from the 18th starting slot to nail down his
second victory of the season.
Tommy
Beck, who has been the model of consistency with four
top-five runs this year continues to lead the points
race by 20-markers over Barry Awtey.
Everyone will be looking in their rear view mirror this
Saturday, however, as former track champion and two-time
NASCAR Northeast regional champion Richard Mitchell.
will make his first Jennerstown start in 2005.
The
Bruceton Mills, WV driver, who has also competed in ARCA
RE/MAX and NASCAR BUSCH Series events, already has a
feature win under his belt this year at the Motordrome
Speedway in Smithton.
“Richard (Mitchell) is always a serious candidate to
visit Victory Lane,” said general manager Larry
Mattingly. “He is has returned to his family-owned team,
and once again has his brother, Chris, working as his
crew chief. They should be in the thick of the chase
this week.”
Joining the Wheeler Bros. super late models on the race
card will be the late model, Advance Auto Parts street
stock, PA legacy and Pizza Hut hobby stock divisions.
Gates open at 2:00, with the first race set for 6:30
PM.
