Jennerstown ‘race of champions ‘sold out’
JENNERSTOWN, PA (July 20, 2005) … Jennerstown Speedway
has hung up the ‘Sold Out’ sign for this Saturday’s
‘Race of Champions’event, which features NASCAR Nextel
Cup driving stars Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Sterling
Marlin and Ken Schrader.
“We
had to shut off the ticket sales two days in advance of
the race, because we literally have no more physical
space available to put people in the spectator area,”
said speedway general manager Larry Mattingly. “The
response for tickets has been overwhelming. We probably
could have taken another two or three thousand orders
over the next several days, but I honestly don’t know
where we would put them.”
Saturday’s event will mark the largest crowd in the
75-year history of the oval, and by far the biggest
spectator turn-out for a motorsports event in Somerset
County. Nearly 10,000 people are expected to pack the
half-mile asphalt speed plant this weekend.
“No
spectator tickets will be sold on Saturday,” Mattingly
said. “If you don’t have an advance ticket … you’re out
of luck..
The
quartet of NASCAR drivers will be flying in from Pocono
International Raceway after participating in a morning
qualifying session on the triangular 2 ½ mile oval.
After
participating in a pre-race autograph session, which
will be limited to 2,000 fans, the four drivers will
participate in two 8-lap exhibition races driving super
late model cars.
Also
on tap is Jennerstown’s five–division NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series race card, which will be highlighted by
twin 30-lap contests for the super late model division.
Parking lots will open at 9:00 for the special event,
with spectator gates opening at 12:00. The pre-race
autograph session is slated to run from 5:45 to 7:00.
Weekly series qualifying races begin at 6:30, with the
NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers taking the track at 7:30. The
event will take place ‘rain or shine’.
