Jennerstown alters september/october schedule
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Aug. 8, 2005) … Jennerstown Speedway
has made several significant changes to its previously
announced 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
September/October racing schedule.
The
announced 200-lap contest for the Wheeler Bros. super
late model division has been canceled. In its place the
Somerset County half-mile paved oval will present Triple
30-lap features at the weekly admission price of $7.00.
“There
are a number of reasons we pulled the plug on the
200-lap contest,” said speedway general manager Larry
Mattingly. “With the fragmented car rules that still
govern asphalt racing throughout the nation, we find it
impossible to attract outside cars to race in the event.
It was senseless to promote an event of this magnitude,
without the ability to entice non-Pennsylvania
competitors and fans.
“That
situation should be changing over the next several
years, and we will again pursue a major independent
extra-distance race. Yet another factor is that we have
to ensure that we have a minimum of 16-feature events to
qualify our drivers for the Division 4 NASCAR Weekly
Series championship,“ he said. “Running triple 30-lap
features should give us the insurance we need, and be a
popular attraction for our fan base.”
Several other schedule changes were also announced. The
Sept. 17 date has been realigned to feature all five of
the speedway’s weekly racing divisions. Highlighting the
evening will be a National Championship race for the PA
legacy class. However, the special Western Pennsylvania
invitational race for the hobby stock class has been
canceled.
“Again, with all the variations with this class across
the state, we found it impossible to draft a set of
common car rules that would permit equal competition,”
Mattingly stated.
Also
on tap Sept. 17 will be a special kids’ promotion …
‘Halloween – a month early’ Anyone coming to the
speedway in costume that night will be admitted free.
There will also be clowns, face painting, trick or
treat, and a kids’ ‘gold rush’.
The
Oct. 1-2 ‘Fast and Furious Challenge’ and the Oct. 8-9
‘Cyclefest’ events have also be canceled for 2005.
The
final event on the 2005 schedule is the Sept. 24 Hooters
ProCup 250 ‘North vs. South’ championship.
