Jennerstown speed notes…..
… Only a month
remains in the 2005 Jennerstown Speedway racing
season, and only two events are left on the
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series schedule. This
Saturday (Sept. 3) will feature triple 30-Lap
features for the Wheeler Bros. super late model
division, marking the first time in speedway
history that more than two events for a single
class have been scheduled on the same day. Also
in the spotlight Sat. will be the PA legacy
cars, who will contest a 30-lap main event for
an increased purse. A special ‘Night of
Destruction’- featuring Megasaurus, a
transformer dinosaur, a Jet Jeep car burn,
monster trucks, a demolition derby and fireworks
– will be staged on Sept. 10. The final NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series show will be ‘Champion’s
Night’ on Sept 17. Twin 30-Lap super late model
features, a 50-lap National Allison Legacy
Series championship and extended lap features
for the late models, Advance Auto Parts street
stocks, and Pizza Hut hobby stocks will be on
the race card. The season finale will take place
on Sat. Sept. 24 with the running of the United
Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooters ProCup BF
Goodrich Tire 250 ‘North versus South’
Championship event, featuring the top 25 drivers
from the USAR northern and southern divisions.
… Going into last
weekend’s NASCAR action current Jennerstown
super late model points leader Tommy Beck was
ranked 11th in the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series Division IV championship title
chase. With several more opportunities to
increase his overall total, Beck could jump up
several spots in the final tally, which will
conclude on Sept. 18.
… Alum Bank’s Todd
Price, who turned in four top-10 runs in the
Wheeler Bros. super late model class, after
moving up from the late models, will probably be
out of action the final two weeks of the season
after blowing an engine during practice on Aug.
20.
… Larry Germek, who
fields a super late model for his daughter, 2003
Western PA Rookie of the Year, Chantal Germek,
will enter a second car for street stock
standout Adam Kostelnik beginning this week.
…Andrew Wylie,
currently ranked second in the late model points
race, will be doing some long distance commuting
to finish out the season. The Saltsburg High
School graduate has matriculated to the
University of North Carolina to study
engineering, and will fly home to compete in the
next two events. Unlike most young drivers
today, Wylie has no dreams about competing in
Nextel Cup. His goal is to design and build
NASCAR equipment, and is using his current role
as a driver to aid his development in that
direction.
… Late model driver
Daniel Angelicchio will be missing in action for
the remainder of the season. A senior at
Hempfield Area High School, the 5’ 9”, 210 pound
Angelicchio is the starting center and defensive
end on the Spartan football squad, which opened
the season with a big victory over arch-rival
Greensburg-Salem last Friday.
…With only one race
remaining in the USAR Hooters ProCup Northern
series, DuBois resident Benny Gordon appears
poised to capture his second consecutive
championship. Gordon, who won the Hooters race
at Jennerstown on May 28, currently holds a
50-point margin over Mardy Lindley going into
the Madison, Wisconsin race on Sept. 9.
Jennerstown favorite Gary St. Amant is third,
126-points back.
… Part time
Jennerstown super late model competitor Tim
Bainey Jr. is currently ninth in the Hooters
ProCup North point chase. Bainey splits his time
between USAR and Jennerstown, and indicates that
will also be his plan in 2006 as well.
… Other former
Jennerstown drivers ranked in the Hooters ProCup
top-25 include: Jason Mignogna (14th),
Glenn Gault (17th), Todd Peck (18th),
Eric Corbett (20th), and Robby
Marhefka (21st).
…Logan Dernoshek
has dropped off the Hooters ProCup tour, and has
placed his entire racing operation up for sale.
The former Canonsburg driver has accepted an
engineering position in the North Carolina area,
and is looking to make a move to the ASA Late
Model Series in 2006.
…Former 2000
Jennerstown pro truck champion Aaron Will made
his USAR Hooters ProCup debut at the Illiana
Speedway recently. The Marysville pilot drove
his Altoona Alignment Ford to a 22nd
place finish. Will plans to compete in 5-6 USAR
events in 2006.
