Wiltrout gets
Early jennerstown christmas present
JENNERSTOWN, PA (Aug.
22, 2005) … Jennerstown Speedway will officially celebrate ‘Christmas in
August’ this Saturday evening, but defending Wheeler Bros. super late
model track champion Garry Wiltrout received his present a week early.
Wiltrout became the
sixth different division feature winner in last Saturdays rain
shortened event, ending a season of frustration for the Somerset-driver,
which has been marred by crashes and mechanical problems.
“Boy, we needed that
one,” said Wiltrout. “Last year everything went our way, but this season
we seem to be involved in every accident. Last week we had everyone
covered. Hopefully we can keep it rolling for the rest of the year.”
The victory moved
Wiltrout back into the top-five in the points race, as he now trails
fourth place Mark Cottone by just 20 markers.
“Garry has had a
target on his car all season,” said track general manager Larry
Mattingly. “His team couldn’t get a break early in the season, and it
has cost them any chance of repeating as track champion.”
Tommy Beck continues
to set the pace, stretching out his margin over second place Barry Awtey
to 34-points with a third place finish last week.
“With five races still
on the schedule, including two more twin 30-lap nights, the most
consistent driver is going to win the track championship,” Mattingly
said. “The pressure is on Barry (Awtey); he obviously needs to let it
hang out a little more to get back in the chase.”
This Saturday’s
‘Christmas in August’ Fan Appreciation Night will have a little
something for everyone. Twin 30-lap super late model features will
highlight the five-division NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing program.
Kids will get to meet Santa Claus, and participate in big wheel and bike
races on the race track, plus have an opportunity to win a new bicycle.
In addition there will be an on-track autograph session held before the
races begin, giving everyone the opportunity to meet their favorite
driver. All spectators will be admitted for a $3.00 general admission.
Spectator gates open
at 5:00 PM, with the autograph session scheduled to run from 6:00 –
6:45 PM.. Because of the extended pre-race program the first event will
get underway at 7:00.
