Wiltrout Sweeps Super Late Model; Price, Boyer Split Late Model at Jennerstown

With only three nights of racing left in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Jennerstown Speedway, the point leaders in each division left this night with a bigger lead than when they checked into the pits as they would all reach victory lane.  New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company presented twin 50's for the Wheeler Brothers Super Late Models and twin 25's for their own New Enterprise Stone and Lime Late Models.  Garry Wiltrout made it a clean sweep in the super late models, using strong performances and some racing luck in picking up both feature wins.  Todd Price and Rick Boyer split the two late model features as Dink Colarusso (Day Ford Street Stocks), Duane Noel (Somerset Furniture Sales Chargers) and Patrick Parlock (Advance Auto Parts Hobby Stocks) would also pick up wins on the night.

A great 22-car field took to the track in the first super late model feature, which saw cautions plagued the early stages as the yellow flag would fly three times in the first four laps.  The most serious of which was on lap1 as defending track champion Barry Awtey hit the outside wall coming out of turn 2.  Awtey came into the night only 12-points behind leader Garry Wiltrout.  Bobby Henry led the first two laps of the race before Richard Mitchell made the move past on the lap 2 restart.  Wiltrout went by Mitchell on lap 7 and distanced himself from the field.  Battling hard for third place on lap 20, Bobby Henry and Mark Poole made contact in turn 4 with both cars sideways and fortunately avoided the inside wall.  Both cars went down the pit road and reentered the track, losing several spots as the race stayed green.  As the laps winded down Mitchell was unable to run down Wiltrout as he went on to take the win.  Mitchell settled for second followed by Kyle Martel, Mark Smith and Tommy Beck in the top five.

The second 50-lap feature saw trouble strike at the beginning once again.  Contact between Mitchell and leader Paul Urso going into turn 1 after the first lap sent Urso spinning, collecting several cars in the process.  Only the cars of Poole and Todd Goble were unable to continue.  Beck took off with the lead after the restart and checked out on the field.  Jayme Bolkovac ran strong in second holding off the challenges of Awtey during the early stages.  A caution for debris erased Beck's big lead on lap 15, but would pull away once again after the restart.  Bolkovac, who is engaged to Tommy Beck, would eventually run down Beck and when the yellow came out on lap 41 for Mark Smith's stalled car, Bolkovac got one more shot at taking the lead and her first win of the year.  After the restart, Bolkovac used the high line to take the lead at the stripe, but going into the first turn contact was made and Bolkovac went spinning to bring out the yellow.  Beck would be sent to the rear of the field as a result.  This handed the lead over to Wiltrout who moved up to the third spot before the yellow.  Wiltrout held off Mitchell after the restart and went onto win his second of the night and fourth of the season, padding his points lead.  Awtey would overtake Mitchell for second.  Martell and Tim Bainey, Jr., who debuted a former Mitchell ride he just purchased, rounded out the top five.  Beck and Awtey won the heats.  Wiltrout holds a 50-point lead over Awtey 762-712.   Bobby Henry sits third at 706.

Todd Price took the lead from Wade Champeno on lap 5 in the first 25-lap late model feature and made it appear as though he would run away with the race.  A caution for Todd Corson on lap 15 allowed now second place running Rick Boyer to pull alongside for the restart, and as they went back to green Boyer took off with the lead.  The yellow flew again on lap 19 for Corson, with Jacob Coffin and Wade Champeno also getting caught up in the incident, erasing Boyer's lead.  Unfortunately, Boyer was ruled to have jumped the restart and was sent to the rear of the field, giving the lead back to Price.  From there Price went unchallenged to take home his fifth of the season.  Dusty Rhoads came home second followed by Mel Wilt, Boyer and Corson.

Boyer made up for his mistake in the second feature as he took the lead after a lap 1 restart and checked out on the field.  Boyer, the current point leader, took home his fifth win of the season nearly a straightaway ahead of second place Price.  Rhoads, Corson and Champeno rounded out the top five.  Price won the heat race.  Boyer sits atop the points with 714. Price is second with 696 followed by Rhoads with 686.

Jason Holder took the early lead in the 20-lap street stock feature before point leader Dink Colarusso made the move past Holder on lap 4 and into the lead.  As Colarusso continued to put distance between himself and the rest of the field, the best battle took place for third between Adam Kostelnik and George Nicola.  The two drivers put on a great show during the caution free event with Kostelnik eventually putting a stranglehold on the position.  At the end it was Colarusso extending his point lead in taking home his fifth of the season after being shut out of victory circle for the past several weeks.  Holder held on for second with Kostelnik, Nicola and Roger Onstead in the top five.  Colarusso and Bobby Young won the heats.  Colarusso leads Kostelnik by 22-points, 502-480.

The chargers ran a combined feature with the street stocks once again this week and will do so the remainder of the season.  Duane Noel passed Mike Stevens on lap 7 and went on to take home win number six.  Stevens, Stephen Mock and Scott Bowman rounded out the field.  Noel leads with 520 points followed by Stevens (504), Mock (502) and Bowman (500).

Eugene Zerfoss led the first four laps of the 15-lap hobby stock feature before point leader Patrick Parlock made the move into the lead on lap 5.  Greg Lohr followed right behind Parlock shuffling Zerfoss back to third.  Parlock kept a safe distance ahead of Lohr and Zerfoss but both were unable to mount a serious challenge.  Parlock took home his seventh win of the season with Lohr, Zerfoss, Jim Biss, and Deidre Petrie rounding out the top five.  Parlock, who also won the heat race, leads Lohr by eight points, 526-518.

With only two nights of action left in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at the Laurel Highlands Oval, the point titles are still up for grabs as anything can happen.  Next Saturday Highmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield will present a regular program for the Wheeler Brothers Super Late Models, New Enterprise Stone and Lime Late Models, Day Ford Street Stocks, Somerset Furniture Sales Chargers, and Advance Auto Parts Hobby Stocks.  The PA Legacy Series will return after a week off and the Super Minicup cars will be on hand for their final appearance of the season.  It was announced that the final two nights of regular racing action will be $5 admission nights.  Completing the schedule of events will be the USAR Hooters Procup Series BF Goodrich Tires 250-championship event along with the Allison National Legacy Series 50-lap feature on Saturday, September 25.  For more information on these remaining events contact the speedway office at 814.629.6677 or visit www.jennerstown.com.
